A Vintage Swimsuit: Sea-led the Deal!

Who: Jen

What: Vintage swimsuit; Circa 1960s

Where: Footloose in Granville, Ohio — the tag inside says “Honolulu, Hawaii” though!

How Much: $15.00

When I use It: When I don’t feel like wearing the conventional two- piece. This summer, I’ve worn it not just for swimming, but around the house when I want a summer-y, laid-back look.

Shopping Tips: Make friends with the owners! Often, small vintage shops are operated by only a handful of people. When I bought this suit, I was an established Footloose customer. Barbara, the owner, knows I am a poor college student (now poor college graduate) and often knocks a few dollars off my purchase or throws in a free piece of jewelry. Also, don’t be afraid to bargain when a piece has a small flaw or imperfection. This suit was originally $18 but when I pointed out the light stains (visible only on the inside), I saved $3 — just enough left to support my iced coffee addiction!

Oh, I am so buying a vintage swimsuit next summer! The closest vintage clothing store is nearly an hour away (I live out in the middle of nowhere), but I think it’s definitely worth a trip! I saw some 40s suits there a few months ago, but they were priced near $50. You’re so lucky to get one for $15!

The bathing suit is absolutely adorable, but I just don’t know if I could ever purchase such an intimate item vintage… it’s kinda like underwear! But they just don’t sell these in stores so I guess soak the cooties in hot water and get over it 🙂

Love this suit, Jen! I remember checking out Footloose, but I never found anything as cute as this.

You have to dig in that place, but that’s the beauty of it…the thrill of the hunt! It took me like an hour and a half to find this suit. Maggie, did you know there is an entire basement crammed with stuff, too?
