Fave Finds: ModWriter Laura's Trio of Vintage Tomes

What and Where: San Francisco: A Sunset Pictorial (1969), found at Urban Ore, Berkeley; San Francisco’s Telegraph Hill (1972), found at Adobe Books, Mission District; and Starting From San Francisco: Poems by Lawrence Ferlinghetti (1967), found at Green Apple Books. The pages of used books are probably the only thing you can get away with sniffing when shopping. That musty attic smell is enough to coax any lit lover into a good-find coma, and these three books definitely did that for me. Since relocating from Pittsburgh to work at ModCloth’s San Francisco office, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for vintage books about my new city, and in less than a year, I’ve found three I adore. Check out the collage below showcasing some of my favorite details!”

Shopping Tips: “When scouring the shelves, don’t forget to take a peek behind book sleeves. Old-school presses seemed to have spared no costs, oftentimes embossing or printing title graphics you wouldn’t have otherwise known were there.”

If you love vintage books and you just moved to SF, you HAVE to go to this book sale in late September. You’ll have a heart attack when you see how big and wonderful it is. I now take a day off of work for its opening and use the whole day there. http://www.friendssfpl.org/?Big_Book_Sale
