Wear Vintage in the World!

Who: Sarah… unless it’s October 31st, then you can call me Carmen Sandiego.

What: Floor-length red coat, just like Carmen’s!

Where: Goodwill, spotted while shopping for dorm furniture.

How Much: $5.50

When I use It: For Halloween every year, I work at a children’s festival emcee-ing the costume contest, so I wanted a costume that was fun and cute, but not too revealing, inexpensive, and warm!  I decided to be Carmen Sandiego, from my favorite TV show and computer game in the 90s.  Unfortunately, after much searching and staring at my bank account balance, I had to accept that a new red trench coat was simply not in my budget.  My mother suggested thrifting, but I told her that the chances of me finding the right coat in the limited thrift stores available in our town were slim to none, and I accepted that I would have to wear a pre-made store-bought costume.  Days later, I tagged along with my boyfriend to Goodwill shopping for dorm furniture, and from across the store I saw THE coat.  It was as if Carmen Sandiego herself had grown tired of it, and donated it that very morning!  The hat was $10 at Target, and the rest of the costume were things I had in my closet. I plan to hold on the the coat after Halloween for any more costume potential, and maybe alter it later to something a bit more everyday.

Shopping Tips: Don’t give up! Always check, because just about anything can be found in Goodwill!  Stop by often, as the inventory is constantly changing.
