5 Podcasts That Will Make You Smarter in 5 Minutes

There’s no denying our loyalty to the always-engaging stories replete in episodes of This American Life. However, a little variety in one’s podcast repertoire couldn’t hurt, right? We recently polled our fans on Facebook for their favorite podcasts and received oodles of awesome and diverse recommendations! In fact, our fans provided us with so many recommendations, we felt downright compelled to compile their responses in some unique way. So today we bring you a list of podcasts guaranteed to make you smarter in five minutes or less – check ’em out!

1. Grammar Girl Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing
Grammar Girl covers it all, from punctuation and capitalization to improving personal writing style and everything else you would ever want to known or question in grammar. We recommend subscribing to GG’s daily newsletter as well for utmost dominance of the beast known as the English language.

2. Arming the Donkeys
In this ultra-short, super informative podcast, Dan Ariely and a highly-cerebral guest briefly discuss a particular scientific research project. This podcast is great for learning about strange idiosyncrasies of the human mind, aka great knowledge to show off at parties!

3. Stuff Mom Never Told You
Let’s face it – in between worrying about your daily nutrition and advising on how to achieve a fabulous sense of personal style, Mom may have left out a few pertinent details about life. For those interested in gender studies, look no further than this HowStuffWorks.com podcast.

4. Shoe of the Month
We know you adore fab footwear, but do you know the history of the high heel, or how the on-trend style of clogs first originated? The Bata Shoe Museum’s highly researched and well-presented podcasts are here to teach you a thing or two!

5. Vegetarian Food for Thought
You don’t have to be an omnivore to enjoy the tips and tidbits which make up this delectable podcast. We recommend listening on a full stomach, otherwise you’re liable to get very, very hungry.
