5 Things to Do Before Labor Day

We’re feelin’ it, you guys. We’re feeling that marvelous medley of mixed feelings that comes with Labor Day’s arrival. The start of September signals the coming of crisp days, colorful leaves, and all the snuggly attire we can get our paws on, but it doesn’t make saying goodbye to summer any easier.

So, how do we cope with these conflicting emotions? By making the final days of summer as fabulous as the first! Read on for five ways to wish summer a fantastic farewell.

1. Lay It on the Lawn

Blazing sunshine and sizzling forecasts won’t be around much longer — take advantage of this weekend’s weather with outdoor lawn games! If you love crafts and wordplay as much as we do, this life-sized Scrabble DIY has your name written allllll over it.

2. Read That Book You’ve Been Meaning to Open

No, we’re not talking about Infinite Jest. (Although, if you’re able to start and finish DFW’s masterpiece before Labor Day, please share the secrets of your genius and willpower with us immediately.) We’re talking about those must-read novels that held infinite potential at the start of summer! Those books you meant to bring to the beach that got left behind in a frenzy of last-minute packing! There’s still time. If you’re in need of a rec, we’ve got some great ones.

3. Use Up Those Fruits & Veggies

Now’s the time to host the backyard barbecue that’s been looming over your party-planning brain since June. We’ve got just the grub for your gathering: Caramelized Peaches for the adventurous griller, and Creamy Spinach Guacamole for literally everyone else.

4. Use Up the Alcohol Too, ‘Cause Why Not

Helloooo, long weekend! Kick back and relax with a refreshing beverage or three. For the classic cocktail enthusiasts, here’s a zesty twist on an Old Fashioned. For those who can’t say goodbye to summer until the first leaf falls, here’s a beachy-keen punch that’ll last you ’til the autumn equinox.

5. Make an Autumn Activities Jar

It’s like a to-do list, but infinitely more fun. And in a mason jar! Known in Pinterest circles as a “Bored Jar,” these containers are a charming way to keep ‘blah’ days at bay. After decorating them to your liking, fill jars with small bits of paper, each scribbled with an activity you simply have to do this fall. When free time presents itself, close your eyes, reach into the jar, and find out which surprise outing is on the itinerary!

Pumpkin patch? Duh. Apple picking? Slam dunk it in the jar. A porch party with friends, acoustic music, and wine, preferably held on a crisp October night? We know it’s specific, but it’s our activity jar. We’ll fill it how we want. Go wild! An amazing autumn is yours for the taking!

+How will you be saying adios to summer?
