I’m a card-carrying member of geekdom and proud of it. This wasn’t always the case, though (oh, middle school). Geeks, nerds, whatever you want to call us, we’ve worked hard to get where we are in society. These efforts have paid off with time. The negative connotations association with geek culture have largely fallen away, leaving a positive impression in their wake.
Nowadays, we have many celebrated female geeks to admire in the media. Here are our favorite gals who wave their geek flags high and wear the style with flair.

The Big Bang Theory‘s Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler and Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz (besties!) not only have fabulous onscreen chemistry, but also brilliance in spades. They’re spectacular scientists, and they’re not afraid of a little cosplay, either.

A lethal combination of brains and beauty, Temperance “Bones” Brennan, Ph.D., has been endearing audiences for almost a decade. Bones has a high IQ and an even bigger heart. Socially awkward, unintentionally humorous, and oh-so-smart, we love watching the Bones star solve whatever puzzle comes her way.

Jess Day lives in her own whimsical world, and she doesn’t care who disapproves. Her quirky personality shines in every New Girl episode, which keeps us coming back for more. We also want to own every cardigan and vintage-dress combo in her closet.

Loyal, brave, and a ball of beloved, crime-solving energy, Abby Sciuto of NCIS never backs down from a challenge. She thrives on using her wonderfully mad science skills to save the day (and giant energy drinks, of course).

Another lovely lady in a lab coat, the quick-thinking Molly Hooper is Sherlock’s wing woman. Although shy and subtle about her accomplishments, she’s an essential part of the the Sherlock team.

Felicity Smoak is a techie queen with a heart of gold. She awkwardly says all the wrong things at all the wrong times, but her smarts and computer genius talents are often what keep Oliver Queen, a.k.a. The Arrow, from falling victim to Starling City’s most vicious villains. Plus, Felicity knows how to mix high- and low-fashion pieces in a way that always flatters. In our eyes, Felicity is the true superhero of Arrow.

Cosima Niehaus of Orphan Black is one science-savvy clone. She’s super intelligent, loyal, and witty. Cosima, with her cute dreads and cat eye glasses, is often onscreen with inspired outfits that are alternative but chic.

Leslie Knope will do anything for her Parks and Recreation castmastes. She’ll dress up a room, scrapbook, or herself for a good time, no matter how ridiculous the end result. Leslie is a nerd leader and a whiz with reports and planning; she always goes the extra mile because it’s the right thing to do.
