Let’s give a standing ovation to Karirenize Guerrero, the mani mastermind behind Kari’s Nail Art! The NY-based nail artist is handling business like a boss, providing “bold and authentic pieces” for celebrities, models, and brands like ModCloth! To celebrate spooky season, Kari created a custom nail set inspired by our fa-boo-lous Halloween collection and sat down with us to discuss how she nails her craft!
All Hands on Deck
From an early age, Kari and nails went hand in hand. Kari began her manicurist journey as a teenager, doing nails for friends for fun. What began as a hobby, soon developed into a full-blown passion, with Kari eventually becoming a licensed cosmetologist in New York and New Jersey. “I went from working at a regular salon setting to doing editorial work, such as participating backstage in fashion shows and working on set for beauty campaigns.”
While Kari is a self-made manicurist, she’s all about supporting those who are still trying to nail down their craft. “I would advise manicurists to never stop learning; be a sponge! Soak up knowledge from experienced colleagues and invest in continuing education to learn new techniques. The nail industry is constantly changing and nail school is just the beginning of this career.”
When partnering with Kari’s Nail Art, we wanted the ModCloth custom nail set to reflect our bold and boo-tiful taste. And Kari was more than happy to creep it real. “I was inspired by a pair of bat stockings available on ModCloth’s website which are perfect for Halloween. I decided to use a periwinkle base to make the set more dreamy and I really love the outcome.”
When she’s not in the full swing of spooky season, Kari’s greatest inspirations hit closer to home. When asked what Kari’s Nail Art design she would be and why, she answers easily. “I would be the Frida Kahlo design which I created sometime last year. Frida Kahlo is one my favorite artists because she was a creative individual that put so much detail and feeling into her paintings. I admire her for that.”
And we admire Kari for her awesome work. Let’s give her a round of applause!
