We’re raising a glass and raising our spirits with the amazing @beautifuleatsandthings! Also known as Andrea, the creator, chef, and registered dietitian is helping us celebrate Halloween by creating a custom fang-tastic cocktail. In addition to taking over our IG stories to show you how to brew up this boos-y cocktail, she sat down with us to discuss her culinary journey, life outside the kitchen, and how she’s getting into the Halloween spirit.

We love to see all of the yummy recipes you post on @beautifuleatsandthings! When did you first fall in love with creating in the kitchen?

Thanks so much! I fell in love with cooking at a very young age. I would always help my mom in the kitchen and I loved watching my grandmother make tons of cakes and pies around the holiday season. This love for cooking continued as I got older and I began cooking for my friends and hosting small events. It brings me so much joy to prepare food for others!

What’s a piece of advice you would give to a chef that is just starting out? 

I would suggest keeping things simple. Start with recipes and flavors that are familiar and that you enjoy. And be patient with yourself!

All of your recipes look so amazing. BUT, if you had to choose just one meal to make, what would it be? Who would you share that meal with? 

This is a tough question, but if I had to choose, I would say that my favorite recipe is my Extra Fluffy Chocolate Chip Pancakes! They are sooo good and I love to top them with peanut butter! I would definitely like to enjoy this meal alone, haha, but if I had to share…I would share it with my kids.

Many have said that cooking is a form of self-expression. What do you want your food to say about you? How do you express yourself outside of your culinary creations? 

I totally agree! Being from the South, most of my food is simple and comforting. I cook with love and I want others to feel that whenever they try one of my recipes. Besides cooking, I love to play in makeup and come up with unique looks to express my creativity. I am a former professional makeup artist, so I still like to break out my makeup kit every once in a while!

At ModCloth, we’re getting into the spirit of Halloween. Can you tell us about a memorable Halloween you’ve had? What inspired you when creating our Halloween cocktail? 

I love Halloween! My most memorable Halloween had to be when I was in college! One of the fraternities decided to create a haunted house for the whole campus and it was so much fun! We dressed up in fun costumes and actually went trick-or-treating in a few of the dorms! Those were good times!

This year, we decided to dress up as vampires, which gave me the inspiration for this cocktail. I wanted it to look spooky and gruesome, but also taste pleasantly sweet! It was very delicious!
