How could you not be mad for Janie Bryant? The ultra-talented costume designer is ridiculously good at her job (check out that Emmy chilling on her bookshelf), effortlessly stylish, and, probably one of the nicest people ever. We dropped by Janie’s cozy, sunlit Los Angeles studio to ask her how she got such an awesome job, the details on her recently published book and soon-to-come website, and, of course, what it’s like dressing the ladies and gents of Sterling Cooper.

Okay that seriously is the best job ever!
I love her! She had a little blurb of favorite things in Vanity Fair a few years ago and listed Disney movies and seam rippers as some of her faves, how cute 😉
I was not aware (until just now when I looked up more information about her) that she also designed the costumes for another amazing show, Deadwood. What a resume she has!
I think I loved her work on Deadwood even more than Mad Men. Mrs. Garret’s dresses alone…
I a quite jealous because she has THE best job ever!
She is so adorable and a serious rock star!!
I think “best job ever” is a serious understatement when it comes to Janie’s amazing career. This is a great interview and I can honestly say I’m inspired. Thank you!
Yay, this was awesome!
Best job ever is right…and I can’t wait to read the book sometime. I wrote a book on Chicago’s Fashion History, so I’m always looking to learn something new.
Since historic fashion makes me weak in the knees, I have to agree with everyone else: best job ever, indeed!
Wow!!! THis girl has got it all!! Such a creative inspiration for me-go Janie!!!
Wow! Stunningly talented girl
WHAT AN INSPIRATION!!! I work with costume designers as a graphic designer and just to hear Janie’s passion & confident outlook towards what she’s doing and how she’s sharing it with the world…SHE’S BRILLIANT! What a wonderful interview, thank you ModCloth!
As a Halloween costume designer, this is a wonderful glimpse into another facet of the design industry. It’s completely inspiring. It’s also nice to know we’re not the only ones working crazy hours with ridiculous deadlines 😉 Good things we have cool jobs that we love!
That’s a great interview! Congrats Modcloth for the excellent work! Byt he way her blouse is amazing!
Be still, my heart! She is extraordinary 🙂
It’s great to see other people that are in different creative avenues. So inspiring.
Love love love her!!
amazing interview! she is so inspiring! i want her job!! lol 🙂 x
Janie does design, but only very few of the pieces you see on the show. A very high percentage of what you see is vintage clothing. She is more of a stylist. The show actually buys alot of clothing from the store I work at here, called Orlando Vintage Clothing & Costumes. We’ve been featured in several magazines for our work on the show, and we also supply vintage clothing to Boardwalk Empire. 🙂
Just super proud to be a tiny, tiny part of what she does. It’s amazing what she pulls together! Keeps me watching each season.

I have a burning desire to have a job like this young lady. I ooze vintage fashion. How to break into this??
