I don’t know where to begin describing the amazing Maria of Lulu Letty! She has such a distinct style–I feel like she could be a character from a Jane Austen novel, a rebellious young lady wearing pants and refusing to ride sidesaddle. She mixes masculine pieces like loafers and high-waisted trousers with feminine blouses and bows. She often has her adorable puppies (or husband) by her side on her adventures to the lake and through the woods. She’s the kind of girl Anne of Green Gables would consider a kindred spirit, and forest creatures would flock around like Cinderella. Basically, she’s adorable, and you’re sure to fall in love with her blog after reading her interview, and checking out her favorite ModCloth pieces. And you won’t be disappointed by her pretty namesake dress.
Do you have a favorite fashion icon who inspires your style?
I don’t have a favorite icon, but I do greatly admire women who love a bit of gender bending, such as Katharine Hepburn, Diane Keaton and Alexa Chung. My personal icon is my mom. She’s a risk taker and always looks her best.
You always have the prettiest outdoorsy backdrops in your outfit photos. How does your location influence your style?
Now that I live in a more rural area, I’m more brave with my outfits. I feel less inhibited with my choices. I don’t know how girls living in the city do it. I feel so incredibly silly posing in front of people, plus they always stop and stare.
Do you have any secret dreams for the future?
I want a simple life with a pretty little house in the country, a self-sustaining career, a baby and my husband by my side. Think Baby Boom.
What style blogs do you follow?
So many of the girls who’ve been Blogger of the Moment are huge inspirations to me. I love A Thought is the Blossom, Dear Beatrice, Leproust Vintage, Mamushka Marie, Suck My Savvy and many more.
If you could plan the perfect date with your hubby, what would the two of you do?
We would eat Mexican food till we popped, then go to a concert, and afterward a cigar bar.
When you’re not blogging, what are your other hobbies? Do you have a day job, or do you blog full-time?
When I’m not blogging, I spend my days sewing, drawing, reading, riding my bike, Millicent, and playing with my dogs. I do blog full-time and run my two Etsy shops.
What are your favorite bands?
Joy Division, Bloc Party, She & Him, Sondre Lerche, Grizzly Bear, The Black Keys and pretty much anything New Wave.
And last but not least – if you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and what would you eat?
It would have to be my grandma, Elinor. She passed away six years ago and I still miss her every day. We would eat her amazing black cherry Jell-O.
