If the beautiful spring weather isn’t enough to get you off that couch, this DIY project is just the ticket! You won’t be able to sit still with your very own homemade CD disco ball dangling from your ceiling!
It’s easy! It’s fun! And, it’s oh-so worth it. Ready? Let’s decorate the groovy way!
CD Disco Ball
What you’ll need…
1. Chop, chop! Cut your CDs into small squares. Don’t worry about them all being the same size–disco has no rules! Also, don’t forget to save your non-square scraps to fill in any holes.
2. Grab the Styrofoam ball, hot glue, and your wire or string of choice. Coat the end of the wire in hot glue and slide it into the ball. If you chose string, use something pointy like a pen or chopstick to poke a small hole in the ball. Run your string through the ball and knot it at the bottom. Loop the other end of the string so you can hang it when you’re done.
3. Get your glue on! Start by making a sort of equator with your squares, gluing them iridescent side up, then build off of that until the entire ball is covered. If some of the squares have a cool design or color on the other side, make your disco ball unique by gluing that side up!
4. Give your disco ball its finishing touches by filling in any holes with oddly shaped scrap pieces of the CDs.
Now, find a place to hang your magnum opus and get the music bumpin’! Easy, right? If you try this out, let us know! We’d love to see the artistic choices you’ve made!

Christen, this is awesome, and you’re awesome!
That is fantastic and a good way to reuse old cds that are unable to be played anymore! i have tons that are scratched! boo love a good DIY project!
What a great idea for using unwanted or ruined CDs and DVDs! I get junk mailed CDs and DVDs as well. Great idea for fun and it’s a way of recycling too.
I’m gonna do this for sure! I need to go to walmart and get a styroform ball!
Try to find a local craft store instead of going to Sprawl-Mart and supporting their world domination…
Mom and Pop stores need your business more, and it works better with the spirit of recycling!
This is such a fun idea. I love it
Wow, what a great idea! I am moving my online shop to a studio this week & I need to decorate badly. It would be so cute to do this idea on a lampshade or on a glass candleholder.
Really good idea!
This is the best thing ever!
Thanks for sharing this <3
I made a disco headband by covering a plain black band with cut CDs.
I love it! Super Cutie pie! <3 <3 <3
I love the DIY! Keep ’em coming!
Very Cool Chrissy. You have great ideas.
This is such a good idea. I bet it sparkles when the sunlight hits it. Even to do a cluster of 3 different sized ones would be so cool. Luv it!!
Whatever you do, don’t tell Jude about this idea. He is obsessed with Disco Balls!
You’re brilliant my dear! I finally got to see a picture of your masterpiece. It looks even better than how you described it!
