The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
It stretches, it bounces, it oozes, and it farts… ahem, excuse us. In the spirit of Geek Week, we couldn’t think of a more appropriate DIY than to recreate the gloppity goop that shaped our childhood! With just three ingredients, in a matter of minutes you’ll have a handful of nostalgia that will easily provide you and everyone around you with endless entertainment.
What is Gak, anyway? Often used as a science experiment in schools, the combination of Elmer’s glue and liquid starch (and sometimes other materials) create a putty-like material called a polymer. In simplest terms, a polymer is a long strain of molecules. By making your own homemade putty, you’re learning about the properties of polymers! So go ahead and make your own DIY Gak! We double dare you.
From A to Z Home’s Cool
1 cup Elmer’s glue
1 cup liquid starch
1. Pour glue and coloring into a mixing bowl, stir until color is thoroughly mixed in.
2. Stir in starch a little bit at a time. As mixture thickens, you may want to knead it with your hands. Keep mixing until the ingredients reach a putty consistency.
3. If it’s too sticky, add a little more starch. If it’s too slimy, add more glue. You’ll know when it’s reached the perfect smooth and rubbery consistency!
I used to LOVE gak as a kid! Now I know the next science project to do with my students once September hits 🙂
Oh my god I used to LOVE Gak! I’d forgotten all about it!
fun fun fun, thank you!
I used to love this stuff.. My son loved it too … his grandmother would laugh so hard when he would make the poot sounds… they were so funny to watch…
Looks awesome with Elmers Glitter Glue….which can be cheapened by using a bottle of glitter glue and a bottle of clear glue
