The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
This week, I wanted to expand my wardrobe’s potential by creating removable bows and lace clips that could give some of my favorite pieces new looks!
This project was actually inspired by this vintage polka-dot bow-tie! I love it and I wanted to sew it to one of my dresses, but I couldn’t decide which one. To save myself from an impossible decision, I decided to sew hair clips on the back with the bow, so I could attach it and remove it from whichever outfit my heart desired!
The bowtie is shown above on our adorable Buttercup Cashmere Sweater.
I have a ton of vintage lace from my Grandma, so I decided I to make a lace pin. First I sewed the lace to itself creating a double layered ruffle look, then i sewed safety pins to the back of the lace.
The lace is shown in the picture above on our Wuthering Heights Jacket.
For this big yellow bow, I took a leather belt, tied it into a bow, and sewed safety pins into the back of it. If you are worried about damaging the fabric of whatever clothing you’ll be pinning, I suggest sewing hair clips onto the bow so they won’t pierce your clothes.
Above, the yellow bow is shown on The Ultimate Find Dress!
If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. And if you take a picture of your finished project, please send it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org – I’d love to see your projects and share them with other blog readers!
Liz, you are so clever!!
Great Idea, I love bows and lace even though this year my particular crave is for feathers! I love modcloth feathers hair pieces! I’m considering customizing some of my cloths with them! By the way, I have a cool vintage DIY idea (no not with feathers) to share with you Modcloth mates, is there a place I can send it to?
oopsy just saw the email address v_v’ silly me
Aww thank you LIZ – a simple, cheap DIY fancy that really changes a look. I can use these tricks for my posh toddlers too. After I finish sewing their paperbag waist skirts.
I’m constantly looking for more items to use in different ways ..I love collars as well. I think my fav here is the leather bow. Now THAT’s something I may not have thought of 🙂 Thanks!
I absolutely love this DIY! I will definitely be making the lace bow 🙂
I will totally try out this idea.
