Frederico Babina: Archicine

The marriage of mediums always makes for the most engaging art, and in this imaginative collection of illustrations by Barcelona-based graphic artist Federico Babina, bold design meets great cinema from years past in a series he calls Archicine.

The gem of his collection is the Conanicut Island Lighthouse from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Perched on a strip of coastline in Rhode Island, the structure was built in 1886 and served as the Bishop home in the film. Because it now serves as a private residence, only the outside of the home was used in the movie, but Babina’s bright recreation is nothing short of extraordinary. Whether it’s a movie set, like the 31-storey brickand-mortar beehive of activity in Hitchcock’s classic, Rear Window, or an actual residence, like the Sheats Goldstein house portrayed in The Big Lebowski and built by architect John Lautner in the ’60s, Babina’s work pays tribute to edifices both real and imagined. — By Amy, Customer Care Lead Assistant
