Fun for Fall: The Jack-o-Lantern Cocktail

Looking for a fun and easy drink recipe for your upcoming Halloween shindig? There’s no pumpkin in this cute cocktail, but with just an orange slice and mint leaf, the end result is utterly gourd-geous.

The Jack-o-Lantern
Jack-o-Lantern Cocktail

What You’ll Need:
2 oz. whiskey
1/2 oz. triple sec
4 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup* (you can buy this at the store, but for an extra-tasty version, try the special recipe below)
Mint leaves

How To:
1. Pour the whiskey, triple sec, orange juice, and simple syrup* into a cocktail shaker.
2. Add a few ice cubes.
3. Give it a good stir.
4. Strain into a lowball glass.
5. Slice the orange into wheels (not wedges). Cut a small slit into the center, then insert a mint leaf to make a “pumpkin top” with a stem.
6. Place the orange wheel on top of the cocktail as garnish.

*Mint-Orange Simple Syrup:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Handful of mint leaves, muddled
Zest from 1 orange
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Slowly bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat and let it cool. You can store the remaining mixture in the refrigerator for up to a month.
(If you choose to use this recipe for the simple syrup in your Jack-o-Lantern, skip the triple sec! Just use 1 full ounce of this, instead.)

      This one was so much fun to make! You can also use a tiny sliver of a lime to make the “stem” for the pumpkin top.
