In the Clutch: How to Embelish Your Bag

DIYPurse-272We love adding a personal touch to our outfits — whether it’s by donning a unique vintage accessory or adding an unexpected DIY embellishment to a favorite piece. If you’re looking to breathe new life into an old favorite, or simply set your wardrobe apart, why not add a painterly flourish to your handbag?

Today, we’re showing you a super simple way to transform a bag or clutch. What’s more, this DIY is so versatile, the concept can be used to change up clothing, furniture, or jewelry!

Metallic-painted Clutch

Clutch or handbag (we used the Strategic Style Bag)
Blue painter’s tape
White acrylic paint
Gold acrylic paint

Step 1:
You’ll be using the tape to mask off the design you decide to create. Once you’ve settled on the design, use the scissors to cut the tape, placing it on your designated areas. We decided to add stripes to our handbag.

Step 2:
To make the gold metallic paint more noticeable, we first coated the exposed areas with white paint. Dip the paintbrush into the white paint and carefully brush on. To speed up the drying process between coats, use a hairdryer set on low.

Step 3:
Rinse and dry your paintbrush and repeat step two, this time using the gold paint.

Step 4:
Once the gold paint is dry, very carefully remove the blue painter’s tape. Touch up any rough areas using your paintbrush and paint or a gold paint pen.

What are your favorite ways to add a personal touch to your accessories?
