21 cents. Nowadays, that can’t buy you much of anything, right? While it’s a small price to pay – when viewed through the lens of the gender pay gap, 21¢ costs women in the workforce an enormous amount. On average, in the United States, women make 21¢ on the dollar less than men. This is a pay disparity that causes the typical U.S. woman to make $590,000 less than a man working an identical time span.
We don’t know about you, but we think that 21 is kind of the worst. Sure, it’s a good birthday year, but when it comes to the pay gap, the only number we want is zero. As in, a 0% difference between how much men and women are paid. To celebrate the theme of International Women’s Day 2020 – #EachforEqual – we’re giving 21 its last hurrah with 21% off everything! However, we never want to do this sale again. Not because we don’t love giving you a deal (we do), but because of what 21% off represents. Fingers crossed that by this time next year, we can have some sort of zero celebration.
To memorialize this sale, we’re sharing some of Team ModCloth’s favorite quotes from the women that have inspired them to fight the pay gap. ModCloth was co-founded by a woman, is designed for women by women, and predominantly employs women. We know firsthand how important pay equity is in the fight for gender equality. Keep scrolling to find out what women inspire Team ModCloth to keep fighting the good fight against 21. Happy International Women’s Day!
