This Valentine’s Day, you could run to the store and pick up any old box of chocolates… Or you could purchase a pretty box and fill it with juicy, hand-dipped strawberries. Ain’t no shame in the former (been there, done that), but if you have time this year to go above and beyond, this simple DIY sends a clear and personal message of love and care to the lucky recipient.

Here’s what you need:

  • Decorative box (we picked ours up at the craft store)
  • Strawberries
  • Candy melts
  • Decorative tulle
  • Frosting dye
  • Bowls/spoons
  • Parchment paper

Step One

Place half of your candy melts into a microwave safe container and microwave for a few 30-second sessions. Stir in between each session and continue until the chocolate completely melts. This will take you about two minutes. Next, add frosting dye to the container. We’re going with purple today because it just felt right. Mix well, and then dip the bottom halves of your strawberries and set them on parchment paper to rest.

Step Two

To create a marble effect, melt down the remaining half of candy melts into another bowl. Add a spoonful of the purple chocolate to the white chocolate, then mix gently to create swirls. Carefully dip your strawberries into the swirled section and set on parchment paper.

Step Three

While you’re waiting for the chocolate to set, fold layers of tulle and then place at the bottom of your box. We chose pink, sparkly tulle because it was cute, but there are lots of options out there! Choose a fabric, tulle, or “paper grass” that pairs well with the box you chose and that fits your recipient’s personality!

Step Four

Once the chocolate has completely hardened, arrange the strawberries in your box. You can even add a handwritten note! We wrote ours on our Display My Name Place Cards, but we have some other cute options, too:
