The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
Can you hear it? That’s the clock ticking down to the season premiere of “Mad Men,” which airs this Sunday. Naturally, our offices are abuzz with anticipation for the final season and the viewing parties that we’ve all been planning. If you’ll be hosting your own “Mad Men”-themed fête, why not go the extra mile and serve a classic cocktail?
The Old Fashioned is Don Draper’s go-to drink for good reason. This traditional cocktail has been around since the 1800s, is easy to assemble, and only requires a handful of ingredients. The purest form of the recipe omits the fruit garnishes, but we’re big fans of the orange slices and cherries, and as you can see below, so is Don. Check out our recipe, and be sure to come back next week for another classic cocktail how-to.

Make Mine an Old Fashioned
1 lump sugar
Maraschino cherry and orange peel for garnish (optional)
Ice (optional, ideally one large cube)
Crush the lump of sugar and dissolve in a dash of water.
Add two dashes of bitters and, if desired, the ice and orange.
Mix in one jigger (1.5 US fluid ounces or 44 ml) of whiskey.
Next, add the cherry if desired.
Now that you know how to mix one up for yourself, enjoy this clip of Don behind the bar, and be sure to check out our full selection of mid-century marvels!

I think you should point out there are whiskey and brandy old fashioneds 🙂 I’ve also seen olives as garnishes for whiskey ones.
My own Southern style version without the muddling of the fruit that was required in most recipes for this favorite:
One tall bar glass filled with ice
Squeeze one slice orange and a cherry
4 dashes bitters
2 shots Southern Comfort (1/2 for wimps)
Top with 7-up( soda for dieters)
Less effort and fewer trips to the bar!
I call it ” Old Fashioned on steroids”
I think you forgot step 3 somewhere? No bitters?
