The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
Australia is blowing up with bloggers that showcase unique and inspiring style, and Jess of Jess Loves Fred is no exception. Her blog is chock full of edgy outfit photos that make you want to try something new. Jess is unafraid of mixing prints and silhouettes, which means her outfits are always exciting. Still in college, Jess hopes to work in the fashion world for a while, and then start a non-profit, but not before traveling the world.

Can you let us in on the story behind the name of your blog?
“Frederick Hans Gutenburg” somehow became the name of my first DSLR (bear in mind I was about 14). I thought it’d be a good idea to name my blog “Jess Loves Fred,” because Fred embodied my love for photography. Fast-forward two years and Fred just sort of represents all the good things in my life. The number one question I still get is, “Is Fred your boyfriend?”
How would you describe your style?
It’s a mixed bag. I think my style is maturing really fast; I find myself buying clothes that I could easily see on my mother and would have cringed [over] just a year ago. However, my love for crazy prints, crazy hemlines, and sharp tailoring is undying.
As a college student studying public relations and advertising, what industry would you most want to work in when you graduate? What would be your dream job?
I think I’m going to meander into the fashion industry for a few years and then put my responsible boots on and get into corporate PR. The two things I’ve always wanted to do, though, are to become a flight attendant (even if only for a year!) and to open a homeless shelter. Yep, my aspirations make no sense because they’re completely different from each other. Good luck to me.
What are your favorite activities when you’re not blogging?
More often than not I find myself working or interning – it doesn’t leave much time for anything else, but you can find me behind the laptop screen in bed watching Community, The Wire, or The Office.
You’re a bit of a bookworm. What’s the last book you read that you’d recommend?
Always have and always will be. I’m currently in the middle of The Picture of Dorian Gray (took me forever to get around to reading it), and it’s fantastic. A bit of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Milan Kundera never did anyone harm, either.
What are your daily online reads?
The Huffington Post, Good.is, Give Me Something to Read, and a million fashion blogs on Bloglovin’.
Do you feel like blogging is changing the fashion industry?
I do think that bloggers are starting to make an impact on the fashion industry – although the effect isn’t as great in Australia yet. With all the superbloggers and the collaborations and little ventures they’ve come up with it, it’s obvious that blogging is becoming something more than a band of teenage girls airing their angsts out on the internet amidst jars of nail polish and phone bills.
We asked Jess how she’d wear her namesake dress. Check it out!
Jess accessorized her namesake dress with the No Cutting Corn-ers Heel, Turn It Upbeat Coat, Won’t Leaf You Behind Ring, and Golden Gift Ring.
blogger of the moment, inspiration
Such great outfits – definitely adding this one to my reader 🙂
Sooo much going on! And it works soo well! Your style makes me think of someone who is hard to pin down (always on the move, always busy due to the boldness of the colours etc), and definately has a big personality!
