Bands with Adorable Animals in Their Names

If you’re making up a band name, where do you begin? One of those online generators? Pulling adjectives and nouns out of a hat? There are a thousand different ways to settle upon your creative cognomen, but we think bands who make an effort to include amicable animals in their name are doing something right. ‘Cause if there’s one way to make your music even more appealing, it’s to associate it with a cute critter. Here are a few bands that are on the right track–whether it’s that of a hoof, paw, or foot!

The twinkling, ephemeral sound of this Swedish group’s experimental, alt-electronica songs seems to capture its namesake animal’s elegance. If you watch Deer Tracks‘ “Slow Collision” video above, you’ll see why we’re fawning over this girl and guy duo.

Although this Australian, indie pop duo has a name many grammarians would ‘ix-neigh,’ An Horse has sure reigned in a good sound.

With a name like Squirrel Nut Zipper, you might expect this band to sound like Alvin & the Chipmunks gone wrong. But, this North Carolinian band serves up a titillating fusion of swing, jazz, blues, and ‘Southern roots.’ Here, they’ve coupled a powerhouse tune with a vintage-style ‘toon for one heck of a knockout number!

The slightly eerie sound of San Francisco-based band Blue Rabbit‘s self-described combination of “alternative indie pop with baroque elements, modern rhythms, and a hint of cabaret,” is melancholic and enchanting in a way that will make your ‘hare’ stand on end.

What are your favorite music groups with animal appellations?

Lizzie, LOVE This list. I started (and named) the SF band Blue Rabbit whose video is above…and this whole list floats my boat. Cat Power was probably the heaviest influence towards our name, back in the day….I thought, if she can call herself Cat Power, I can be Blue Rabbit. Now there’re 8 of us though!
