You might not know the name Mary Lambert yet, but you’ve probably heard her voice singing the chorus of Macklemore’s “Same Love” on the radio and you’ll surely be hearing more of her soon. Her debut album, Heart on My Sleeve, is set for release in October and she just wrapped a tour with Gavin DeGraw. Her style and sincerity blow us away, so naturally she’s September’s Monthly Muse.

Mary is a crusader in the self-love movement. Her two-part manifesto “Body Love” is a haunting half-spoken word poem, half-song that gives me chills every time I hear it, her voice sounding near tears as she describes a generation of lost women “perpetually waiting by the phone for someone to pick up/and tell us that we did good/we did good.” She’s open about her history with mental illness and abuse in a way that’s not sugar-coated; in a way that makes her audience feel. Blog posts about loving yourself are commonplace on her website and she encourages fans to express their feelings through tears at her shows.
Her honesty is awe-inspiring. This is a woman who performed at the Grammys and helped accept an award at the VMAs, and she posts about shrieking in excitement when she hears her songs on the radio, and has her friends video vignettes of her dancing in front of her own promotional posters.

Never one to play the “too cool for this” attitude, Mary engages with her fans on social media actively and shares breaking news with lots of caps and exclamation points. Her newest single from Heart on My Sleeve is called “Secrets” – and her confessions are refreshingly real while still set to a bubbly, sing-along-worthy tune.
Her style game is totally on point. She rocks a red lip and red hair in a totally effortless way and never shies away from a bright floral. Whether she’s glowing in a gold sequined gown at the VMAs or rocking wet hair and a tee in a selfie, she always looks totally cute and comfortable – and confident in her choices.
Tell us what you think about this up-and-coming chanteuse!
