The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!
If you don’t get to talk to or see long distance friends very often, send each other love songs! Okay, you don’t have to compose them yourself, and they don’t really have to be about love, but sending an e-mail with an attached “Song of the Moment” is a great way to connect with those you miss! I am now part of a group started by one of my friends, so that every so often, we can send out tunes that are just too good to keep to ourselves!
This week, in addition to sending out an e-mail to the Song of the Moment crew, I’ve decided to share it with the ModLife community! Enter La Roux.
La Roux literally translates to the male version of “red-haired one,” which according to 21-year-old chanteuse Elly Jackson, “Is even cooler, because I’m androgynous anyway. So it kind of makes sense.” Check out the video above for her latest single, “I’m Not your Toy,” to see what she means first hand as her signature coif sprouts from still pools of water. English electro-synth pop duo Jackson and Ben Langmaid’s debut single Quicksand released in December 2008. Months later, on June 29, 2009, their self-titled album released in the UK with the single In For the Kill that topped charts at number two, and Bulletproof at number one.
What’s your take on the red-hot La Roux? Will you be adding “I’m Not Your Toy” to your Song of the Moment list?
Love it! Listening to it on repeat!
ooo. Perhaps today’s Annie Lennox? I love her look!
Love La Roux! Check out Quicksand, too. I like her Euro-urban androgynous look–I’m thinking 80’s retro. 🙂
Bulletproof is my favorite — a recent addition to my dance night’s list of staple song choices.
JULES, I love La Roux!! Have you heard her song “In for the kill”? When I was studying abroad in Ireland, they constantly played it!
Am I the only one in the world who doesn’t like La Roux’s music…and boyish style?
lol! I’m going to be in trouble with the world now!
I kinda like her music; it’s catchy. Her style on the other hand, I’m slightly undecided on.
I really dig how she’s rocking the androgynous look, and her music’s infectiously catchy in a sophisticated way, I think.
And I LOVE this music video and song! It’s so quirky and playful.
Lovin’ this! Thanks for spreading the La Roux word! If I could rock a coiffure like that I would do nothing but look at myself in the mirror all day.
anyone have any suggestions for similar music? love it
Lindsey, plug her into Pandora to catch similar artists!
I’ve been in love with La Roux since she played on It’s On With Alexa Chung last year. Freakin epic music. 😀
La Roux cannot really mean the male version of the red-haired one… La is per definition a female pronoun in French.. but anyway still great music!
Am I the only person who found the video a little creepily colonialist-racist? The song’s fun, the video skeeves me out.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE her. I saw her at All Points West and didn’t know who she was and now I am obsessed with her <3
She’s amazing…but maybe i’m biased cause as a fellow redhead i’ll support anyone else who is lol 🙂
