Taken By Trees Takes Us by Surprise

It’s no secret that fashion and music are inextricably intertwined. Some of music’s most infamous names are known not only for their unique sound, but also for their dazzling stage presence or enviable personal style. In the case of Victoria Bergsman, the woman behind Taken By Trees, it was her vintage-inspired, whimsical style that initially piqued my interest. While clicking through The New York Times‘ slideshow detailing the fashion at CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival, I stopped short at this portrait of Bergsman. After admiring her mysterious gaze and adorable dress, I’ve been listening to her melody-driven, dreamy pop songs ever since. Taken By Trees’ cheerful cover of Animal Collective’s frantic “My Girls” is a new fave – be sure to check out the gorgeous video above.

Speaking of new music, have you had a chance to listen to our CMJ playlist? Or, were you lucky enough to attend the festival? We’d love to hear all about it!

Victoria’s a friend, and I’m so happy to see her talent recognized. You should also check out her old work with The Concretes, and her song “Young Folks” with Peter Bjorn and John!
