Putting Out the Past: Laughable Vintage Cigarette Ads

We love vintage, but as we all know, not everything from the past is pleasant. During our June stylebook shoot at Los Angeles’ Cafe 50’s, we discovered some hilariously outdated ephemera on the walls of this non-smoking establishment. These advertisements for cigarettes are outrageous to us today, with claims such as: “More Doctors Smoke Camels,” and “Cigarettes Do Not Cause Cancer.” No joke; check them out for yourself!

I really hope tanning salons wind up in that category! I love lying out it in sun on vacations, but the daily salon visitors scare me! And especially their employees! I just want to grab them by the elbow and drag them to the nearest dermatologist.

Also, I love jeggings as much as the next girl, but I can see all of our grandkids making fun of us already.

Without a doubt, those butt-firming shoes from Skechers! And perhaps, baby Einstein. Thanks for this article. What a hoot!

Let’s hope we never say this about current scientific reports stating that cell phones “probably do not cause cancer”. Oh, the thought. Yikes!
