Transportation Tickets You’ll Want to Scrapbook

Wrinkled into the bottom of a purse, roughhoused between a book’s pages, jettisoned into the recycling – such are the fates of transportation tickets, and understandably so. Why keep a boring scrap of paper? Such was always my sentiment… until these vintage subway and bus passes came along and derailed that train of thought.

With their sweetly drawn imagery and brightly colored layouts evocative of Charles Demuth’s “I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold,” these old tickets are pretty much mini works of art. If tickets looked like this nowadays, people might be a little more loco for locomotive and bus commuting, thus upping their eco-friendly ante, even if we’re only to collect these affable bits of ephemera.

Do you think beautifying the most everyday aspects of public transportation could make a difference people’s commuting habits?
