Have you heard about our new NYC FitShop? We asked our friend Raushannah Kornegay to stop by for a visit, then show us some of her favorite hot spots in the area. We’ll let her take it from here:
My name is Raushannah Kornegay also known as @SimplyShannah on Instagram. I’m a corporate girl with a love for travel and fashion. New York, the city that a lot of people dream to visit, I have the beauty of residing in and I’m thrilled to show you around. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and although I love to travel, in the words of Dorothy (from “The Wizard of Oz”), “there’s no place like home.”
A couple of things are extra special about New York City, the ever changing season, the ever changing fashion, and there’s always something to do. In New York, we have the opportunity to enjoy snow in the winter and hot nights in the summer.
The most popular borough of NYC is definitely Manhattan, and I have a few neighborhoods within the borough that I like to call my favorite. On the weekends, I like to brunch with my girlfriends at 1803, a New Orleans style Oyster bar restaurant located in Tribeca that is picturesque! The décor is beautiful, the food is delicious, and it’s never too crowded. In addition to the oysters, their French toast and mac and cheese are amazing!
After a delicious brunch, I usually hop on over to SoHo, which stands for South of Houston street, and yes there is also a “NoHo” which is the area North of Houston street too. I love strolling the streets of SoHo and popping in and out of the shops and galleries. The streets of SoHo are beautiful and every block is different. There are some cobblestone blocks and some beautiful storefronts which make for some amazing pictures.
New to SoHo is the ModCloth FitShop. On my first visit, I had the pleasure of meeting Brooke and Ashley! They picked out a few outfits for me and I fell in love with this polka dot dress and yellow trimmed trench coat right away. I first stumbled across ModCloth in Austin, Texas in 2018 and fell in love with the concept. At first, I was a bit confused by the term FitShop, but what I did appreciate is the store having all the sizes available to try on and the clothes being shipped directly to my home. I didn’t have to carry around bags of clothes while I strolled the city.
After shopping, I usually build up an appetite for something sweet and Flour Shop is the perfect spot for something small and tasty. The Flour Shop is a small bakery also in SoHo, just a few blocks away from the ModCloth FitShop. In addition to their colorful sweets, they’re also known for their bright rainbow décor! On their website, you can see their elaborate unicorn and cookies n’ cream cake for larger events, but I usually buy a few sweet cupcakes that I can easily eat on the go.
The beauty of New York City is the ability to switch up from day to a night out and that’s where the Roxy Hotel comes in. This place is well known and such a great space to just relax and unwind. I’ve seen a couple of photos of couples getting engaged in this very spot! There’s a lounge inside and a jazz club in the basement. It’s very common for residents of NYC to eat dinner or have drinks at local hotels. Once you really think about it, why not… outside of having some good food, you have the opportunity to meet and converse with tourists.
Thanks for following along. I hope to see you around New York City one day soon!
