Around Auckland with Fashion Distraction

Hold onto your hats, because it’s time for another Travel Bug tour! After visiting Liebemarlene Vintage in the Deep South, we headed over to Auckland, New Zealand, the home of Marcella of Fashion Distraction. What is there to do in a city with more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world? Well, Marcella has a few suggestions…

“Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, with a population of over a million people,” Marcella says. “It’s known for being the center of commerce and industry, and has the cosmopolitan culture to match. Auckland – being an isthmus –is also notorious for its ‘four seasons in one day’ weather, so a jacket and umbrella are always a prerequisite for traveling around!”

1. “Auckland’s buildings are a mix of old and new, with intricate Victorian-style clock towers and modern skyscrapers (like the Sky Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere) dotting the skyline side by side.”

Coveting Marcella’s outfit? Unlike Auckland, it’s closer than you think! Marcella is wearing the Ocean Grove Dress, Forest for the Trees Jacket in Olive, and the Fashion is Art Wedge.

2. Chancery Lane. “One of my favorite areas is Chancery Lane, a picturesque corner of the inner city, complete with cobblestone pavements and wrought iron gates. It’s full of boutiques catering to everything from fashion to gifts. Vibrant al fresco cafés are thrown into the mix for good measure. Definitely a spot to hit up if you’re in the mood for a fancy afternoon stroll!”

3. The city’s marinas. “Auckland is ‘The City of Sails’– a fitting idea as we have more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world. Multiple marinas can be found at the waterfronts, and are a great place to catch an incredible view of the sunset.

4. Auckland War Memorial Museum. “The museum is an iconic landmark of the city. A popular destination for tourists and locals alike, it houses collections concentrating on New Zealand history, natural history, as well as military history.”

5. Atrium Café. “Located inside the museum, [the café is] situated under an architectural dome roof and is home to the most sumptuous paninis and mouth-watering chocolate cake. After hours of exploration, Atrium Café is a much-needed pit stop for some R&R!”

Thanks for this awesome tour, Marcella! Have you been to New Zealand before? For those of you who have been to Auckland or live there, what would you add?

I grew up in the U.S. but live in New Zealand now, and all I can say is you have to visit at some point. Despite being a land mass the size of Colorado there is so much beauty and culture there to last a lifetime. And it’s becoming quite the fashion mecca. If you have the money, I say Go!

Cool things to do in Auckland? Go op-shopping down K Rd, Go to the top of Mt Eden for awesome views, Have a picnic at Cornwall Park and have Movenpick Ice-cream at Mission Bay 🙂

I totally agree with getting a Movenpick ice-cream at Mission Bay, delicious!! And of course opening up a few stores in NZ. I’m in Wellington and I’m sure the store would be a hit here too 🙂
