Growing up in New England, it wasn’t uncommon to come across lobster-flavored ice cream among the old standbys of vanilla and chocolate on the ice cream counter menu. Sure, it was a strange one, but not totally weird when you consider how the famed crustacean permeated so many dishes in the region. But a vegetable-flavored icy treat? Consider the entire ModCloth blog team intrigued.
Earlier this week, Haagen-Dazs Japan announced that it would release two new flavors for early May: “Tomato Cherry” and “Carrot Orange.” While you might be initially turned off at the thought of veggie-tinged flavors, take a second to consider the recent rise in popularity of vegetable-infused juices and smoothies … the mash-ups aren’t completely shocking, right? The “Spoon-Vege” flavors will be released May 12th, and if you happen to live in Japan, you can even enter to win one of the 100 eight-cup veg-sets they’re giving away on the Haagen-Dazs Japan Facebook page. In the meantime, though, we’re curious: would you partake in desserts inspired by your garden? Take the poll, below:
I remember that Pineapple-Carrot-Orange was a popular juice flavor in Italy. I can see it translating nicely to a sorbet.
Ironically, my favorite flavor of ice cream is Green Tea. 2 scoops of that, please!
I love carrot anything 🙂 I think, carrot, beet, jicma flavored ice creams would be good
