Vintage View: The Golden City in a Golden Time

San Francisco, CA, known for its iconic bridges, cable cars, fog, and landscapes, is a city with a storied cultural past. Before the beatniks and flower children of yesterday and the techies of today, emerging designers, restaurateurs, artists, and performers flocked to this fair city. This gorgeous book of photographs and illustrations, recently thrifted in the city of its subject matter, captures life in the late 1940s through compelling visual journalism — up the winding streets, down to the piers, and everywhere in between.

Enjoy this glimpse at some of the unique pictures, people, and parts of 1940s San Francisco. Would you leave your heart in this era?

About Cindy

Pun intended. Cindy loves dreaming up witty quips and groan-worthy wordplay. In fact, you could say this girl just wants to have puns. As an avid fan of the written word and a librarian at heart, she also loves used bookstores, especially ones that harbor cats. A lover of all things old, she takes every opportunity to nerd out on nostalgia.
