500 Days of Fashion

Last weekend, I finally got a chance to see the film (500) Days of Summer! I’d been anticipating it ever since I’d found the trailer on IMDB some time ago while scouting for upcoming films featuring fashion-icon Zooey Deschanel . As I headed to the theater, I was anticipating loads of inspiring outfits, mushy love scenes, and pretty cinematography.  I was not disappointed! This film had all the gushy romance and eye candy I was looking for. Yay!

Continue reading to get the scoop on this latest Zooey movie.

The film is told in non-chronological scenes of Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) and Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as their romance unfolds. Although the story jumps from scene to scene, moving back and forth between the 500 days of their relationship, it’s surprisingly easy to follow! The whole time you’re (of course) wondering whether the boy gets the girl. Well, you’ll have to watch it to find out!

My main interest, however, was in what Zooey Deschanel was wearing. I was immediately struck by the neutral color palette of all her ensembles – lots of blues ranging from navy to aqua, baby blue to royal blue, paired with tan, grey, black, ivory, and white. After watching this movie, you’ll want to amp up your wardrobe with lots of Annie Hall inspired menswear pieces. This fall, get a staple vest, and wear it with a girly blouse and high-waisted trousers. Try wearing tights under shorts with a tucked in top and cute oxfords. Keep cozy in cardigans, wear classic school-girl style skirts and dress up your outfit with whimsical prints.

(Image Above: Jump start your new look with these pieces. Clockwise from top: Play the Odds Vest, Gibson Girl Blouse, Bibliophile Heels, Smokestack Shorts)

I have to say, this is the perfect date movie. I’d even go as far as to say it’s a chick flick for guys (and girls). In fact, I went to see the movie with three boys, and one of my boy-friends (not to be confused with my boyfriend) seemed a little teary-eyed as we left the theater. He remarked that,  “We’ve all gone through relationships like that before.” Ah, too cute!

What did you think of the movie?! Would you recommend it? What ModCloth items do you think Summer would wear?

Yes, we do think alike! Well I think the fashion in the movie is pretty awesome, so it’s a no-brainer to talk about it. Pittsburgh fashion-lovers unite!

I really want to see it because I love Zooey and her fashion taste! I read on imbd that they chose the neutral color palette to bring out her eyes. 🙂

Does anyone know if Zooey does her own wardrobe in some of her movies? Her characters always seems to have something reminiscent (if not flat out obvious) of her vintage inspired style. I’m a huge Zooey Deschanel fan. If you haven’t already, go listen to her collaboration album with M.Ward. They’re calleed She & Him and the album is entitled Volume One.

This movie was adorable! Zooey is adorable! Her style is wonderful! So wonderful in fact that she was my style inspiration in this ModLife blog post from March:

I adore Zooey and her fashion, I always have. I do have to admit though from a less bias standpoint that I haven’t really enjoyed most of her movies as she often falls flat (The Happening, anyone?)

When I first saw this movie when browsing online, I was excited, but a bit hesitant. None the less, I went to see the movie anyway mostly because I wanted to see what the hype was about and if it’d live up to it’s potential. I was slightly disappointed. I really felt like this movie tried a little too hard to be the ‘cute “indie” movie of the year’. And don’t get me wrong, I love an indie film more than most, but I just felt that this movie wanted do be ‘it’ so badly.

Nonetheless, I adore Zooey, for her music and her clothes. Each outfit was adorable and I found myself making a mental note to remember for later!

I really, really, really want to see this movie, but it’s only playing in certain theaters. This means i have to drive for an hour to get to the city to see it! Oh, well, this post is so convincing I just might have to…:)

I loved the movie too, and I rarely like chick flicks. I never really FEEL for the characters and I usually get bored quickly, but not with 500 days of summer. I wanted tom to get the girl and be happy, and I just really felt for his character. I agree that it’s sort of a romance movie for guys. So many of my guy friends have been obsessed with this film ever since the trailer was released last spring.

I also want to emulate Summer finn’s style, haha. A bunch of guys I work with told me I look like her because I have the same hairstlye (except I’m blonde). I noticed the neutral color palette and the shades of blue too, which I loved and I’m totally going to incorporate into my own wardrobe. I look great in blue, so might as well, right?

500 Days of Summer was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen hands down. “Roses are red, violets are blue…”

i absolutely loved the clothing in this movie. the music also ruled. i suggest that everyone should see it!
