Formal Up Front, Casual All Around

For this installment of Unisex-y, I’d like to skip the formalities and informally introduce you to the formally informal Formal-i-Tee by designer Dainty June! With its sturdy yet soft cotton construction, epicene shape, and golden print of a ruffled bib reminiscent of 1970s secretary blouses and tuxedo shirts, this piece can easily be styled for women and men alike.

Continue reading to find out how we styled the Formal-i-tee for both a man and a woman.

This shirt is the perfect piece to wear on casual Fridays at work, or if you’ve been invited to a cocktail party and your hosts have a sense of humor . Sure, you want to look nice; but you also don’t want to look too stuffy. Sounds like a job for this tongue-in-cheek tee!

Here, Turi breaks the glass ceiling of style with an outfit that’s appropriate for an office with a relaxed dress code.  We’ve combined the Formal-i-Tee with the totally ‘boss’ Corner Office Skirt and gave these pieces a pop of funky – yet professional – color with the Flying Purple Peep Toes. Instead of a bow tie around her neck, we wrapped the suitabley named Black Tie Affair Belt around her waist, then finally climbed the ladder of glitziness by mirroring the color of the print with the simple and classy Pinochle Bracelet.

I’ve decided to deck myself out in a slightly dressier style that could be worn to a swanky soiree where both fancy cocktails are sipped and salty chips are dipped. My look was concocted by combining the Formal-i-Tee with a sharp velvet blazer garnished with a handkerchief in the breast pocket , crisply creased black pants, and my trusty old cowboy boots. And – as a series first – my look gets doubly unisex-y by being accessorized with the How The West Was Cute Belt.

As you can see, we’re both quite happy to be sporting the Formal-i-Tee! Would our male readers feel the same? Are there other Unisex-y ModCloth items that we haven’t brought to light yet? Let us know!
