The Style Gallery is a great new way for you to view, love, and share outfit photos. It’s meant to showcase all the expressive, creative, and inspirational personalities of our community!

It’s not often we write about men. But in the spirit of the ever-popular end-of-year list, we just had to compile our own quirky and quite extensive (seems we have no problem writing about this particular topic) list of our favorite gentlemen from 2008. People Magazine may have dubbed Hugh Jackman the Sexiest Man Alive, but we’re partial to our own less-traditional superlatives. So, without further ado, we tip our hats and open our hearts to the 2008 ModMen of the Year!!
Don’t let our size fool you – Pittsburgh is a hotbed of interesting and talented men. Here is our short list of the local guys that entertain and inspire us.
Gregg Gillis, better known as mashup sensation Girl Talk, shows millions of fans that Pittsburgh loves a good dance party. He now sells out venues across the world, but we remember being one of a handful of attendees at his early events at Garfield Artworks.
Keep reading for more of our 2008 Guide to Guys…
Oh Jeff Goldblum, what can we say? Your quirky comedic style and dashing smile secure you a place on our top ModMen list. We can’t wait to see you on Law and Order.
Sidney Crosby. Oh, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. Lets forget for a moment that he’s being compared to hockey greats like Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky, that he’s the youngest player in NHL history to score 200 points in a season, and let’s even overlook the scores of trophies and awards he’s accumulated in his career…look at him! The mere mention of his name melts hearts across the office. Please visit us, Sid, we’re only a few minutes away from the Mellon Arena…
Our own Rachel once moonlighted as Oliver Onion in the Great Pierogi Race!
This fearless contestant in The Great Pierogi Race selflessly entertains us at each Pittsburgh Pirate’s game. You may not be the fastest, but you’ve certainly won a place in our hearts. Now if we could only do something about the team’s roster…
Our wonderful warehouse manager Joseph was an obvious choice for our ModMen list. He orchestrates the pulling, packing, and shipping of hundreds of orders per day, keeping ModGirls around the world on trend and stylish. We love you Joseph!
Terrance Hayes: Since his first collection, Muscular Music, was published in 1999, award-winning poet Terrance Hayes has gained a national reputation for his striking work. Though he was born in South Carolina, Hayes currently resides in Pittsburgh as a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Lucky us!
What could be better than a ModMan? A team of ModMen! Here’s our picks for 2008’s best.
Bret and Jemaine
There’s something about a guy with a guitar (or two). This duo from New Zealand are the quintessential lovable losers. Easy on the eyes and ears, we couldn’t complete the list without Bret and Jemaine.
Honorable Mention: Mac, Dennis, and Charlie (Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day) from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Infamous Men of Infomercials
We’ve spent many a late night debating picking up the phone to order fruits of these ModMen’s labors. Their gimmicks and miracle products have earned them their rightful spots in this year’s list.
Matthew Lesko: There’s something about a guy who wants us to cash in. Smart and excitable, Matthew Lesko lets us in on secrets the government doesn’t want us to know about. And that suit!
Honorable Mention: Vince from ShamWow
Hot Doc We Wish Was Covered by UPMC
Who knew learning about medical conditions like sarcoidosis could be so sexy? We’re willing to tolerate Dr. Gregory House’s bad attitude … in fact, we kind of like it!
OK, so we all have crushes that we might be a little too embarrassed to admit to in mixed company. From one extreme to the other, here are two of our guilty pleasures:
Justin Timberlake and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Guy Your Mom Would Like
We’ve loved Michael Cera ever since his first awkward moment on Arrested Development. What mother (or ModCloth gal) could resist his sweet smile and boy-next-door looks?
Best Guy to Cook You Dinner
At ModCloth, we love to eat. We’d like it even better if these hash-slingers were dishing up the grub!
Jeff McInnis : Top Chef hottie from Niceville, Florida is a ModCloth favorite. Let’s hope he stays longer then Spike did last season!
Honorable Mentions: Gordon Ramsay, Alton Brown, and Anthony Bourdain.
Looks Good in a Uniform
On or off the field (or racetrack), these fellas win big at ModCloth!
Lewis Hamilton : Formula One 2008 champ Lewis Hamilton gets our motors racing!

Honorable Mentions: Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin Pietersen
Best Crime Drama Hair
Dominic West : Fighting drug rings in the outskirts of Baltimore is hard. Thank goodness for Officer McNulty of The Wire.
Best Guy(s) to Hang Out With at a Party
From pretending to be Ghostbuster Peter Venkman when we were kids to having our hearts broken by his performance in Lost in Translation, we’ve always been smitten with Bill Murray’s curmudgeonly, but endearingly witty demeanor. And rumor has it, he’s been showing up at random house parties in Williamsburg. Well Bill, should you ever stop by Pittsburgh…
Honorable Mention: TV on the Radio
Better With an Accent
Although we love the irresistible James McAvoy any way we can get him, we must admit we prefer him with his natural Scottish accent or even British and Irish. Maybe it’s the familiarity, but his American accent in movies like Penelope and Wanted leaves something to be desired. And really, no one looks better in early 19th century costume.

Honorable Mentions: Simon Pegg, Noel Fielding, Steve Coogan, and Ricky Gervais.
John Krasinski: This tall funny man is a ModCloth favorite for keeps. He shines best on the small screen as Jim Halpert, the adorable and romantic trickster that any girl would be proud to introduce to mom and dad. Three cheers for Big Tuna!

Honorable Mentions: Conan O’Brien and Paul Rudd
Thanks for bearing with us and happy new year!! Now tell us: who were your favorite men of 2008??
ModCloth Men of the Year
This list was an awesome thing to read as i nurse the post new years party sleeps and bruises. I love that noel fielding is on the list! I love noel!
Your list makes a beginning, but cannot be considered complete without DAVID TENNANT. Mr. Tennant is not only a hugely popular “star” in Great Britain, he is a major dramatic talent, comparable to Olivier in his ability to be completely convincing in a wide variety of roles. He is also, apparently, a really nice guy.
Ohh James McAvoy…just reading the name my heart goes fluttery.
Two words: Barack Obama.
I know you gals are crazy about Sid the Kid, but don’t forget KRIS LETANG and MAX TALBOT. *Swoon*
oh man, i can’t forget letang. he haunts me in my sleep.
you guys were dead on with john, i love him dearly 🙂
and james, he is just lovely
what a fantastic list of men! one addition i would have to make, being a long time love…Jon Stewart! Adorable, smart & funny he may be married with children but that doesn’t stop me from crushing! 🙂
i’m confused. the mod men was a direct allusion, right? i’m completely smitten by this comprehensive list of all my great loves–except, however, your ludicrous oversight in nominating “most reckless heartbreaker”: the inimitable jon hamm, face of don draper. sure he’s more the strong and silent type over skinny jeans shoe gaze guitar–and yes, he’s a womanizer (though, let’s not forget that the nick in his armor can be penetrated by the right woman)–but he’s not close minded, and he’s not at all averse to the dwellings of the underworld.
for the love of vintage, let’s not forget the man who makes our hearts skip a beat in cuff links, drowning in an old-fashioned, finishing with a cigarette.
and as an honorable mention, the lovely lee pace of pushing daisies–the puppy dog loyalty, easy on the eyes–he had us at window treatments”.
I love yinz too 🙂
hot doc: alex karev (played by justin chambers) of grey’s anatomy. sure, justin has 5 kids and is happily married, but he’s hot nonetheless.
Lee Pace . Jim Sturgess . Andy Samberg . where are they?
i agree with mollyellen and genn. where was lee pace from pushing daisies?? 🙁
Joseph Gordon-Levitt missed the list. I love love love him. If only… :/
OH! And I agree Lee Pace should be on there. Pushing Daisies may you r.i.p.
Lastly yay! Jemaine and Bret made the list. I heart Flight of the Conchords.
