ModMen of 2009!

It is that time of year, again! Our ModMen of 2008 post was so popular (and so much fun to write) that we here at ModCloth are once more jumping on the end-of-the-year, list-making bandwagon. Though we very rarely write about men, the time has come to highlight and pay tribute to a small sampling of 2009’s noteworthy dudes. While you won’t see “Sexiest Man Alive” among our superlatives, you will see some quirky, non-traditional categories and men without whom life wouldn’t be nearly as wonderful, interesting, or entertaining. Some are famous; some are not. Some we’ve never met before; some we have the privilege of interacting with every day.

Read on to see which gentlemen we deem worthy of a loud shout out, and don’t forget to vote for our ModMan of 2009!

Guilty Pleasures

(Clockwise from top left: David Beckham, James Franco, Zachary Quinto, Pee Wee Herman,  Detective Elliot Stabler, and Dog the Bounty Hunter. Images:,,,,, and

  • As a stellar athlete, Armani underwear model, and husband to Posh Spice,  David Beckham has the whole package! You can even become his fan on facebook.
  • Charismatic ex-con Dog the Bounty Hunter has mended his ways and now devotes himself to rounding up  “bad guys” and inspiring them to turn their lives around. Join his fan club.
  • While on a long hiatus after being charged with indecent exposure, Pee Wee Herman stepped back into the spotlight when he launched a Twitter account and appeared on The Jay Leno Show in September. Here’s a taste of his upcoming multi-million dollar stage show “extravaganza.”
  • With a breakthrough starring role on Freaks and Geeks (1999), his role as Harry Osborne on Spiderman (2002) and the next two films in the trilogy under his belt, James Franco was recently seen in Pineapple Express opposite Seth Rogen, and starring opposite Sean Penn in Milk, and most recently hosted Saturday Night Live.
  • Played by Christopher Meloni, Law and Order Special Victims Unit’s Detective Elliot Stabler is fiercely dedicated to work, has five kids, a tattoo of the Marine Corps emblem, a bad temper, and a 97% case closure rate.
  • A Pittsburgh native and Carnegie Mellon University alum, Zachary Quinto plays Sylar on Heros, Spock in Star Trek, and has a new production company.

Mr. Nice Guy

(Left to right: Steven Ward, Mr. Rogers, and ModCloth’s own Brian Clark Images:,,

  • A self-titled “dating pathologist” and VH1 Tough Love host, Steven Ward is blunt, brutally honest, and a self-proclaimed matchmaker extraordinaire.
  • Though it is almost 7 years since Fred Rogers passed away, we would be remiss not to mention him in this post. Fifty years ago,  he defended PBS funding before the US Senate. His farewell video still makes us a little bleary-eyed. Let someone know he or she is special by sending  a free e-card from Mister Rogers’ neighborhood.
  • Brian Clark is ModCloth’s resident Mr. Nice Guy. He makes our computers work and our Mod Office world go round!

Men with whom we’d Like to be Stuck in an Elevator

(Clockwise from top left: Joel McHale, Perez Hilton, Bill Murray, Ryan Reynolds, Andy Samberg, and Michael Ian Black. Images:,,,,, and )

  • The witty and sarcastic host of The Soup, Joel McHale, also stars as Jeff Winger in NBC’s Community, which premiered this past September.
  • As the genius behind “Hollywood’s Most-Hated web site,”  Perez Hilton is our go-to source for the latest and greatest celebrity gossip.
  • Bill Murray provided the voice of Mr. Badger in Wes Anderson’s film, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and made a cameo appearance in Zombieland.
  • In addition to Michael Ian Black‘s new comedy series co-starring Michael Showalter, Michael and Michael Have Issues, Black published his first children’s book, Chicken Cheeks: The Beginning of the Ends, in January.
  • SNL cast member Andy Samberg is beloved for his impersonations of the 18-year-old mayor of Hillsdale, Michigan, and Jack Johnson. Lazy Sunday remains a near and dear classic.
  • It was a big year for Ryan Reynolds, who played Mike Connell in Adventureland, Andrew Paxton in The Proposal, and Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Better With an Accent

(Clockwise from top left: The Mighty Boosh, Chuy Bravo, ModCloth’s Pete Rawsthorn, ModCloth’s Vasil Tsarev, and Simon Pegg. Images:,,,, and

  • We could watch The Mighty Boosh, British comedy power duo with Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding forever and ever…
  • Chuy Bravo is a hilarious and irreverent assistant to Chelsea Handler on The Chelsea Lately Show, as well as late-night television’s first latino sidekick!
  • Simon Pegg played an endearing Montgomery “Scotty” Scott on the ice planet Delta Vega in the 2009 Star Trek film.
  • Vasil Tsarev, our Bulgarian marketing analyst, always puts a smile on the face of everyone on Team Photo and beyond!
  • ModCloth Customer Care Team Leader Pete Rawsthorn dreams of opening a smoothie/cereal bar with a wide selection of toppings and a milk-dispensing mechanical cow. He owns a mini-dachshund named Keith Richards.

Men Who Make Us Laugh

(Clockwise from top left: Demetri Martin, Jason Schwartzman, Seth Rogan, Tracy Morgan, Zach Galifianakis, Jim Gaffigan, and Will Ferrell. Images:,,,,,, and

  • Demetri Martin had a whirlwind of a year with sizeable roles in Late Moon People and Taking Woodstock, and the debut of his show, Important Things with Demetri Martin, in February.
  • Funny People, Observe and Report, Monsters v. Aliens, Family Guy, The Simpsons… with credits like these, Seth Rogen kept us cracking up all year long!
  • Will Ferrell made us chuckle in Land of the Lost and attempting to play professional tennis.
  • Jim Gaffigan made us laugh with appearances on Flight of the Concords, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
  • According to his website, Zach Galifianakis sometimes likes “to go to the zoo and ride on the backs of bison,” and calls the entertainment business “both poison and honey.” He cracked us up in Bored to Death and The Hangover.
  • We love watching Tracy Morgan in the role of Tracy Jordan (a caricature of himself) on 30 Rock!
  • Jason Schwartzman played a tool in Funny People, provided the voice of Ash in The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and acted as unlicensed private detective Jonathon Ames in the television series, Bored to Death.

Honorary ‘Burghers

(Clockwise from top left: Viggo Mortensen, Russell Crowe, and ModCloth’s own Sari Fisher with Jake Gyllenhaal. Images:,,

  • Viggo Mortenson starred with Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, and Kodi Smit-McPhee in The Road, a movie set in a post-apocalyptic world that was filmed in Pittsburgh (where else?!)
  • When Russell Crowe was in the ‘burgh filming The Next Three Days, he rode his bike to the set every day, visited local establishments to hear live music, and even attended multiple sports events! Listen to his take on Pittsburgh sports!
  • Sari Fisher, a ModCloth Buyer, had the good fortune of bumping into Jake Gyllenhaal on her way to work one morning! Sari says, “I spotted Jake on my weekly pre-work trip to Dozen Bake Shop. He was filming a scene for Love and Other Drugs down the street from the shop and mere blocks from ModCloth HQ! I saw him walk into Dozen and knew (having had a huge crush on him since I saw him in Donnie Darko) I had to go in for a closer look. When I finally got up the courage to talk to him, he was sweet and charming and even offered up one of his entourage to take this photo of us!” He even got a fake tattoo of the Pittsburgh Steelers logo!

Men with whom we’d Like to Break out into Song

(Clockwise from top left: Matthew Morrison, Ewan McGregor,  Andrew Bird, and Jim Sturgess. Images:,,, and

  • This year, Matthew Morrison impressed us as Will Schuester, the glee club director in Fox’s new television series, Glee. He is also a charitable gentleman.
  • Okay, so we know Moulin Rouge did not premiere in 2009, but how could we forget Ewan McGregor serenading Nicole Kidman with Your Song
  • Heartless and Crossing Over were Jim Sturgess’ big films this year, but we can’t get Sturgess’ vocal talents from Across the Universe out of our heads.
  • Andrew Bird took Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo by storm with his combination of vocals, violin, guitar, glockenspiel and whistling. Sing along with Fitz and Dizzyspells and Anonaminal!

Guys With Voices We Want for Our GPS

(Clockwise from top left: T-Pain, Christopher Walken, Tim Gunn with ModCloth’s own Maggie Glover, Norm MacDonald, Snoop Dog, and Morgan Freeman. Images:,,,,,

  • T-Pain won a BET award for Best Collaboration with Jamie Foxx for “Blame It.” His new single, “Take Your Shirt Off,” was released November 3rd this year.
  • Christopher Walken had a family reunion and performed a rendition of Lady Gaga’s Poker Face!
  • Morgan Freeman played South African President Nelson Mandela in the biographical drama film, Invictus, which chronicles Mandela’s efforts to end apartheid.
  • Snoop Dogg had a cameo appearance in Bruno, an appearance on The Tonight Show with Conan O Brien, and guest hosted WWE’s Monday Night RAW.
  • Norm MacDonald does killer impersonations of Burt Reynolds, Bob Dole, Quentin Tarantino, David Letterman, and Larry King.
  • Can’t you just hear Tim Gunn‘s voice saying, “right turn up ahead! Make it work,” or “that wrong turn was dowdy! Try again”? Maggie Glover, ModCloth’s Campaign Manager, says, “I had the joy of meeting Tim Gunn at the BlogHer Conference in Chicago this past summer. He was a true gentleman: friendly, polite, and down-to-earth. He asked me all about ModCloth, and said that we sounded like a “phenomenal” site. He even took my card and promised to check us out soon!”

Vampires of the Year

(Left to right: Eric Northman, Edward Cullen, and Bill Compton. Images:,,

  • Played by Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard, Eric Northman of HBO’s television series True Blood says his “destiny is to answer to no man.” On True Blood‘s official webpage, you can vote for whether you like his hair long or short, and whether you’d rather be “bitten” by Eric or Bill (see below).
  • Played by Robert Pattinson, Edward Cullen from the film adaptation of Stephanie Meyers’ bestselling book, Twilight, is appropriately pale, obsessive, and intense.
  • Played by Stephen Moyer, one of the many supernatural charms of True Blood’s Bill Compton is tissue regeneration. Who could resist that?

Mustaches of the Year

(Clockwise from top left:Tom Selleck, Burt Reynolds, Jason Lee, ModCloth’s own Richard Brown, Nick Cave, Spike Jonze, and Danny McBride. Images:,,,,,,

  • Man-of-many-talents Tom Selleck not only starred in the made-for-TV movie Thin Ice as small town police chief Jesse Stone; he was also the film’s executive producer and co-writer.
  • Though Burt Reynolds‘ days of posing naked for Cosmopolitan magazine are (probably) over, he still has one smokin’ hot mustache.
  • Professional skateboarder-turned-actor Jason Lee continued to play a convincing titular character in the television series, My Name is Earl. He also played David “Dave” Seville in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
  • Danny McBride had a very busy year as Kenny Powers in East Bound and Down, the “Caucasian Crackhead” in Observe and Report, and as Will Stanton in Land of the Lost
  • Spike Jonze directed the wildly successful film adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are.
  • Australian musician/songwriter/author/screenwriter/film actor Nick Cave composed soundtracks for 2009’s The Road and published The Death of Bunny Munro, while at the same time maintaining his distinct ‘stache.
  • ModCloth Fashion Writer Richard Brown says, “Whenever I set out to grow a mustache, the initial intention is for it to resemble that of Doc Holliday, as portrayed by Val Kilmer in Tombstone. Then, as I start to get tired of it, and begin to whittle it down more and more until I eventually shave it off completely, I use Clark Gable’s painstakingly groomed pencil mustache as inspiration.”

Beautiful Minds

(Clockwise from top left: President Obama, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jonathan Safran Foer, J. Michael Martinez, Wes Anderson, and Kal Penn. Images:,,,,,, and

  • Barack Obama was inaugurated the 44th president of the United States last January and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this past October.
  • Jon Stewart’s incisive satire probes important issues (both serious and hilarious) until they make you extremely uncomfortable. “It’s even better than being informed.”
  • Stephen Colbert keeps us cracking up and informed at the same time as the host of the Emmy Award winning  The Colbert Report.
  • American film actor and politician Kal Penn announced this past April that he would join the Obama White House as Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, and his character, Lawrence Kutner, was written out of the television medical drama, House.
  • Cinematic auteur Wes Anderson released his genius stop-motion animated film based on Roald Dahl’s children’s novel, The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
  • J. Michael Martinez‘s collection of poetry entitled Heredities was selected by Juan Felipe Herrera for the Academy of American Poets’ Walt Whitman Award. Listen to “White” and “Xiacano.”
  • While Jonathan Safran Foer was first known for his novels Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, this past November, he came out with his first non-fiction work, Eating Animals, which weaves together Foer’s personal narrative with a broad argument about vegetarianism.

What do you think, ModLovers? Are we leaving anyone out? Who are your favorite modmen of 2009?

Very inclusive post Winston, thanks…put a smile on everyone?! Good one LOL

  2. Kate 12/29/2009 at 2:20 pm #

Thanks for remembering Ewan McGregor AND Jonathan Safran Foer!

  3. kristar 12/29/2009 at 2:38 pm #

oh god! Zach Galifianakis is sooooo funny! haha!

i love: jim sturgess, jason schwartzman, seth rogan, andy samberg, and james franco! those are some great guys.

  4. jill 12/29/2009 at 2:51 pm #

I think the first ones were totally awesome. The “beautiful minds” I could have done without; it’s lame to isolate your readership…or at least pick important people like scientists or doctors. TV hosts hardly have beautiful minds–their writers do.

  5. Kim 12/29/2009 at 3:15 pm #

This post is A++, for serious.

  6. Marne 12/29/2009 at 4:16 pm #

I’d like to add Chris O’Dowd (aka Roy from The IT Crowd) for “Better with an Accent”. He’s my current crush!! And Sondre Lerche to “Men with whom we’d Like to Break out into Song”. Swoon. Love that Danny McBride was included…

  7. Lindsay 12/29/2009 at 5:17 pm #

Haha, from the e-mail it sounded to me like you were bringing back the men’s section of the website. Oh well!

  8. Emma 12/29/2009 at 5:18 pm #

This is great! I’m definitely in love with Matthew Morrison, thanks for including him!:)

  9. Jen 12/29/2009 at 5:20 pm #

I’m so glad the Mighty Boosh guys were included in this! This was a pretty great list altogether, but they are about the Mod-est thing I have ever seen!

  10. Sydney 12/29/2009 at 5:22 pm #

Love Zachary Quinto, mmm mmm good.

  11. Ashley 12/29/2009 at 5:23 pm #

I love Mr. Rogers and I still watch the neighborhood on T.V. when I’m home sick… glad to know other people love him, too; love those sweaters, Mr. R! rip

  12. April 12/29/2009 at 5:24 pm #

Love most of this, but I say NO, NO, AND A BIG NO to Perez Hilton being here.

  13. Alletron 12/29/2009 at 5:25 pm #

Mame, I’m right there with you on Chris O’Dowd, but if we’re talking Norwegian chanteurs, I’m gonna have to go with Erik and Erland of the Kings of Convenience.

  14. Courtney 12/29/2009 at 5:26 pm #

Interesting that 3/5 of the black men on your list are worthy of your… GPS. What’s up with that? Great list otherwise, though.

  15. megan 12/29/2009 at 5:32 pm #

Couldn’t go past the Mighty Boosh.

  16. Ambar 12/29/2009 at 5:37 pm #

I like this list, but I dislike it at the same time because of the inclusion of Perez. He’s a little too misogynistic for my taste. But they all have their flaws, to each their own.

  17. Mary Beth 12/29/2009 at 5:43 pm #

Clearly the Mighty Boosh should win! Haven’t you hear that Vince is King of the Mods?

  18. Laura 12/29/2009 at 5:45 pm #

    zachary quinto definately!!!

not only is he a brilliant actor, but is pretty much gorgeous as well!

  19. Nita Riekwel 12/29/2009 at 5:52 pm #

Tim Gunn for sure : D
    whoeeee u rock Tim Gunn

  20. Liz 12/29/2009 at 6:08 pm #

Vince is my dream man. Mighty Boosh should win but also is almost TOO good to win.

  21. genna 12/29/2009 at 6:10 pm #

Notably missing from Vampires of the Year: Aidan Turner as Mitchell from Being Human. Anyone who sees this show will agree.

  22. Shannon 12/29/2009 at 6:15 pm #

It was really tough choosing between Andrew Bird and Zach Galifianakis….I have a thing for funny guys with a talent for good music…

  23. RachelC 12/29/2009 at 6:16 pm #

Awww…I wanted to vote for James Franco! 🙁

  24. Shannon 12/29/2009 at 6:21 pm #

Perez Hilton is an ass and shouldn’t be anywhere on this list.

As soon as I saw Zachary Quinto I was happy. Not only is he talented and gorgeous, he’s into helping shelter animals. You should check out his website. I love a man with a soft spot for a pooch in need!

I would have included my favorite man:Jared Padalecki, but I think that’s just because I love Supernatural so much!

  25. Grace 12/29/2009 at 6:22 pm #

    Wish you had Alec Baldwin.

  26. Abbey 12/29/2009 at 6:27 pm #

I love quite a lot of these guys – I have to say Zach Quinto is probably my favorite by far. With Matthew Morrison in second because holy heck, he can dance! Hard to choose though, this is a pretty great compilation of beautiful/funny/cool guys.

  27. Kari 12/29/2009 at 6:29 pm #

Wes Anderson??? Really? Wow is it the bad economy?

  28. Gabby M 12/29/2009 at 6:29 pm #

I want to see the Flight of the Conchords! But Jim Gaffigan AND Tracy Morgan? What have I done to deserve this? 🙂
    Mr. Rogers is a stud

  29. page 12/29/2009 at 6:31 pm #

    goodness…zachary quinto

  30. Kristie 12/29/2009 at 6:33 pm #

Detective Elliot Stabler, Jason Schwartzman, Joel McHale, Ewan McGregor, Tracy Morgan, AND Viggo Mortensen! Bravo Modcloth team. Bravo.

  31. Sarah! 12/29/2009 at 6:37 pm #

I am most definitely MISSING Joesph Gordon-Levitt on this list. He was in a huge movie this year: (500) Days of Summer, he hosted SNL (where he did a big song-and-dance routine AND perfectly parodied Jason Mraz opposite Samburg’s Jack Johnson), he speaks fluent French, is a college grad., and runs an incredible website : Plus, he is super stylish!

  32. heidi 12/29/2009 at 6:41 pm #

    How about Joseph Gordon-Levitt?
I was disappointed not to find him on here, but Jim Stugess is enough for me.

  33. kelly 12/29/2009 at 6:42 pm #

How on earth do you not include Jon Hamm from Mad Men? Doesn’t he rather personify the Mod Men look?

  34. Sarita 12/29/2009 at 6:42 pm #

Thank you Kal Penn for making it cool to be Indian!

  35. Euni 12/29/2009 at 6:47 pm #

man…peter facinelli aka Carlisle should have been the hottest vampire because he is the hottest vampire. he looks more like a vampire than anyone

  36. Allison 12/29/2009 at 6:48 pm #

    Mighty Booooosh!

Plus I think Jude Law’s mustache in Sherlock Holmes needs some props. He looked HAWT in it.

  37. Jill 12/29/2009 at 6:52 pm #

alexander skarsgard is such a delicious swede. wish i got vote for him instead of bill compton! 🙂

  38. Mary 12/29/2009 at 6:58 pm #

Happy to see Jim Sturgess on the list!

He is certainly a lovely Brit.

  39. Racquel 12/29/2009 at 7:03 pm #

Okay, how can Joseph Gordon-Levitt not be on this list?!

  40. Lauren 12/29/2009 at 7:05 pm #

I would love tim gunn on my gps. haha. but I have to say, Andy Samberg is high on my list too. =P Great post!

  41. Anya 12/29/2009 at 7:20 pm #

  42. Cassandra 12/29/2009 at 7:20 pm #

Ryan Reynolds and James Franco! *sigh

  43. maggie 12/29/2009 at 7:25 pm #

Boosh, Boosh, stronger than a moose, don’t lock your door or we’ll come through your roof! Noel Fielding should obviously win.

  44. Natalie 12/29/2009 at 7:51 pm #

How do I vote Will Ferrell for ALL OF THEM??

  45. Lisa 12/29/2009 at 7:54 pm #

Dog the Bounty Hunter is racist…I’m offended he would be included in this list.

  46. Angi 12/29/2009 at 8:16 pm #

    OMG Ryan Reynolds!

  47. Jen 12/29/2009 at 8:18 pm #

Yeah, we definitely should have seen J G-L, FOTC and Jon Hamm. Otherwise, good list. My ultimate out of the ones on here is Joel McHale. I love everything about that man.

  48. Molly 12/29/2009 at 8:22 pm #

    Bird is the man!

  49. Sam 12/29/2009 at 8:46 pm #

Definitely need to see Craig Ferguson on this list, he’s adorable and hilarious!

  50. Hannah 12/29/2009 at 8:50 pm #

I love how you put Andrew Bird into the mix!

  51. Lawliet Journey 12/29/2009 at 9:14 pm #

I Love The Mighty Boosh I could Not Not Vote For Them <3 I Love Noel!

  52. Gwen 12/29/2009 at 9:45 pm #

Great list (minus Obama.. Great mind? Anyone can read a teleprompter), but I don’t get the voting. We should get to vote for all of them in their categories, not just 1 out of each category! But this is cute =] Joel McHale all the way!

  53. Kristin 12/29/2009 at 9:47 pm #

Richard Wayne definitely has the best groomed facial hair of anyone I know! 😉

  54. Rachel 12/29/2009 at 10:46 pm #

Thanks for including the BOOSH, Andrew Bird, and Ewan McGregor. They are certainly my men of the year 🙂

  55. Melissa 12/29/2009 at 10:54 pm #

Yay for Andrew Bird and Mighty Boosh! But seriously, Michael K is 10000 times better than Perez. Truth.

  56. Tori 12/29/2009 at 11:06 pm #

Ahhhh it was such a hard choice to pick between The Mighty Boosh and Zach Galifianakis… but I picked Mighty Boosh! Noel Fielding is King of the MODZ. (And if you’ve watched the Mighty Boosh, you’ll know!)

  57. Lauren 12/29/2009 at 11:13 pm #

  58. mar 12/29/2009 at 11:15 pm #

i guess my tastes are a little bit too weird since i don’t see willem dafoe, steve buscemi, john waters or david lynch in any of the categories! 🙁

  59. Sara 12/29/2009 at 11:26 pm #

Soon as I saw Zachary Quinto on the list, I felt all warm and fuzzy.

Not only did he totally re-spark my love for the oh-so-calm-and-collected Spock, he’s such a great guy. Charming, intelligent, and just so freaking adorable in EVERYTHING.

Jim Sturgess and Matthew Morrison came in close second and third, because you gotta love a guy with a decent set of pipes.

  60. Alex 12/29/2009 at 11:27 pm #

Zach Galifianakis ALL THE WAY! ahhh… isn’t he just dreamy 🙂 that gorgeous beard…

  61. Fran 12/29/2009 at 11:32 pm #

come come, whay about Jim from The Office. A beauty from nexy door if ever I saw one.

  62. Brooke 12/29/2009 at 11:35 pm #

Loved this! I would’ve added Alan Rickman as a voice I want on my GPS though.

  63. Christina 12/29/2009 at 11:43 pm #

    No Jon Hamm?!?!?!

  64. Jessica 12/29/2009 at 11:53 pm #

I can’t even believe The Mighty Boosh are up here! That makes me incredibly happy :3

  65. Laia 12/30/2009 at 12:14 am #

I guess we, European, have different taste for men to American…. Jim Sturgess is the man for me in the list, although I know a lot of famous men that are way better than him

Zachary Quinto and Ewan McGregor are the only ones from the rest that are fine for me

  66. Melissah 12/30/2009 at 12:43 am #

The Mighty Boosh get my vote, but I would have voted for Eric The Vampire if he had been on the poll. I would cry the tears of a thousand hysterical women if he were real.

  67. Rachael 12/30/2009 at 12:47 am #

I think that Kal Penn deffinately deserves it if he is talented and smart enough to go from comedy and Drama (like Harold and Kumar, and House) to holding a position in the White House. He’s just talented all around!

  68. loosergooser 12/30/2009 at 2:08 am #

the fact the christopher meloni was on here made my day. but the poll confused me… ? anyways i voted for joel mchale- LOVE him!!

  69. Aly 12/30/2009 at 2:12 am #

Oh, Andrew Bird! He is FLAWLESS live, and has lovely cheekbones. :]

  70. NMG 12/30/2009 at 2:46 am #

These are some great men. You guys get major brownie points for having some often unsung favorites of mine — Zachary Quinto, Joel McHale, Jason Schwartzman.

  71. Brenda 12/30/2009 at 4:23 am #

Definitely missing Conan O’ Brien. He is the sexiest underdog in entertainment.

  72. jenny 12/30/2009 at 5:42 am #

    Love this post!
The Boosh get my vote. But seriously, howz about Bret and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords? Cute, funny kiwis who wear vintage!!

  73. ana 12/30/2009 at 6:34 am #

boosh! yay! this makes me incredibly happy. and no space to vote for robert pattinson, even better!! modcloth ftw

  74. Hajar 12/30/2009 at 7:07 am #

That unnamed Hilton is a bad bad choice.. It should not be in the list.

I would vote to Nick Cave <3 or Viggo Mortensen.

This whole list is mostly made up of winwinWIN! So many times have I gone into fangirl mode, my loves being: Joel McHale, Jason Schwartzman, Jim Gaffigan, Ewan McGregor…

But the trinity of Zachary Quinto, Tim Gunn, and Stephen Colbert TOTALLY cinch it for me. 😀

  76. pbt 12/30/2009 at 8:13 am #

Love your post. Especially thje delish Mr. Alexander Skarsgard. Yummy.

  77. MDB 12/30/2009 at 9:29 am #

Yes, it’s a great list, but seriously, ModCloth? No Bret McKenzie or Jemaine Clement? Especially since we will have no more Flight of the Conchords next year? A sad oversight.

  78. Sarah B. 12/30/2009 at 9:36 am #

Be still my heart for Zachary Quinto!

  79. Chelsea 12/30/2009 at 10:29 am #

I always thought I had the weirdest taste in guys when most people had to say “Huh?” whenever I told them the attractive men on my hot list. It’s so refreshing to see ModCloth put people besides Brad Pitt and George Clooney on a list of guys (though we have to give those two their props as well).

  80. Amanda 12/30/2009 at 10:59 am #

Mr. Rogers makes me cry still. What a great man.

  81. Natalie B. 12/30/2009 at 11:15 am #

First off – other “Natalie”… You loved my “Dearly Beloved Boots,” had Jeffrey Campbell lids hanging on your wall before I wrote the post about it, AND you wish you could vote for Will Ferrell for all categories? I’m pretty sure we’re ModBestFriends.

I would also like to say that I was at Bryant Park right next to the stage on election night, and Obama did not read off a teleprompter! 🙂 Even if you disagree with his policies, he’s still a pretty darn smart guy.

  82. Sally Clark 12/30/2009 at 11:27 am #

Well, my favorite person is ModCloth’s own Brian Clark! But then, I’m his mom! ooooooooooooooo

  83. Georgia 12/30/2009 at 11:39 am #

    james franco my love *sigh*,
    ryan reynolds, seth rogen.

and rell who hasn’t dreamt abot taken arwen’s place to get in with viggo?
    . . . oh just me then?

  84. Layla 12/30/2009 at 11:53 am #

My sister told me about this and I had to check it out. I think it’s fun.

But I’m always going to be surprised by the people who manage to turn fun into a sounding board for bashing other people. If the list bothers you that much, make your own.

Great job ModCloth team, I’ve got a smile on my face. Have a Happy New Year everyone.

  85. Erin 12/30/2009 at 12:16 pm #

I feel it’s important to note that Mr. Rogers is not only “Mr. nice guy”. He was a decorated Marine Sniper in his earlier years, and had full tatted sleeves (hence the sweater on his show). It’s true, look it up! -^_^- He’s awesome.

  86. Jen 12/30/2009 at 12:40 pm #

The Mighty Boosh is the best!

Since Vince Noir is King of the Mods anyway, it’s only right for them to see glorious victory haha

  87. aire 12/30/2009 at 12:55 pm #

Loved it! can’t get enough of James Franco, Andy Samberg, Ewan McGreggor, and JIM STURGESS.
but i definitely think you’re leaving out Joseph Gorden-Levitt who starred in (500) Days of Summer. Love him. Also, for men with accents–Gotta have James Mcavoy!
All in all, gotta love end of the year lists!

  101. Rachel 01/02/2010 at 11:35 pm #

Hey Erin – while Mr. Rogers is most definitely still awesome, he did not serve in the military, nor have sleeve tattoos…

  106. Nora 01/18/2010 at 8:18 pm #

Wes Anderson is a genius. Definitely a beautiful mind (let alone just plain beautiful…). And gotta love Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray for their Wes loyalty and contribution to Fanastasic Mr. Fox and all the other wonderful Anderson films. <3

  107. Nora 01/18/2010 at 8:30 pm #

    P.S. @Sam and @ModCloth: Craig Ferguson, definitely!
