Winston will always remain ModCloth’s beloved mascot and the other puppies of the office are close behind in our hearts, but over the holidays, we got a new “pet.” It’s a baby dinosaur robot!
Made by UGOBE Life Forms this Pleo Dino (as named by UGOBE) is capable of adaptive learning and can be taught to sit, sing, and even become a watchdog. To be honest, it kind of gives us the heebie jeebies how attached to it we’ve become; every time it roars or wags its tail, we rush to pick it up and comfort it, and then we remember IT’S A ROBOT! Despite confusing our understanding of appropriate emotional attachments to inanimate toys, it does some pretty cool stuff. UGOBE offers a variety of downloads to turn it into everything from a Godzilla-like monster to a festive holiday dinosaur that sings holiday carols.
The problem? We have no idea what to name him (or her)!
Help us name our new baby dinosaur and you could win a ModCloth gift certificate worth $25 AND a Dino Prize Pack, including the Allosaurus Earrings and Fold-Up Dinosaur Bag. Leave your name suggestions right here on the blog before this Wednesday at midnight and we’ll announce the lucky winner this Friday.
He looks like an Albert or a Philbert (philly for short).
Dave. But then again…i name everything dave lol.
*takes a moment to be creative*
Burton? Cause Winston and Burton sounds like a law office.
Well, since it’s based on a juvenile Camarasaurus, go with Cama or Cammie.
I think he looks like a Mortimer…no reason he just does. 🙂
(after Othniel Charles Marsh)
(after “Apatosaurus ajax,” full name of one species of Apatosaur)
Petey (for Pittsburgh) the Dino 🙂
(Charles W. Gilmore discovered the first full skeleton of a Camarsaurus!)
Aloysius. He should also have a middle initial and high-falutin’ last name, for increased credibility. Aloysius B. Stompington, perhaps.
Mister Pixel Britches
I think he looks like a Toby
“Sir Didymus” (after the self-proclaimed knight-dog of Labyrinth)
Vlad, Igor, or Thesaurus (it always sounded like a name for a dinosaur…he can be word savvy and cute!)
Tale (Egyptian for ‘green’)
LittleFoot (Land Before Time =])
Brita (means Bright)
Methinks either Ralph or Merlin if it’s a boy, Patricia if it’s a girl, and if we’re keeping it androgynous… Ash.
It’s Littlefoot of course! From Land before Time!
(like the Duke of Wellington’s horse)
Cody or Walter. Better yet: Walter Cody O’Saurus
I think you should name it Tambo. I just think it looks like a Tambo.
Virtual Cuteness Mobile Unit. Name him Moby!
chippy. because his toes look like chocolate chips!
(They’re pretty Mod…)
Aw, I want one. Ok, the first thing that popped into my head was the dinosaur in the movie “Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend” from the mid ’80s. I loved that movie as a kid, though I’m sure now it would be horribly cheesy.
So ya’ gotta name him “Baby!”
definitely looks like a stanley to me.
(I’m a T. Rex fan)
FEEDO (the Pleo) Dinosaurobotus
or maybe just Bill
Call him; Dotje .
that is in the netherlands sweety .
I think you should call him Bronty the Preciosaurus.
Dimitrius. (Pronounced dee-MEE-tree-us)
dinky the dino
Kevin. Definitely Kevin. (saved by the bell enthusiasts, i’m sure you appreciate the robot reference)
Fido the Dino
Oops, didn’t realize others had gone the T.Rex route
Electric Warrior (from the band T. Rex)
Seymour the Dinosaur!!!!!!!
Ooh, here’s another one: C.H.U.D. (stands for “cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers” but for a dino it could be “cute harmless ultra-dino” or something like that :D)
(means sweet potato in spanish)
I noticed the beauty mark under her eye and immediatley thought of “Marylin Mon-Rawr”! hope you like it!
name him Figment
theo and we can make him a leo
Frankie! Those lovely blue eyes in the photo…
Rar (the beauty of this is it is not gender specific!)
Tarquin (then he could be ‘Tarquinius Rex’, which amuses me…I am an Ancient History graduate, however…)
Chet or Chester
Burk the Brilliant Dinosaur
I definitely think “Cleo.”
Nice rhyme and also gives her a touch of ancient class.
I think Steve or Nigel are appropriate dinosaur names. Or just Baby, because he’s a cute little baby. Or Professor Rawr. Or Morrissey, because I name everything Morrissey! Morrissey the dinosaur, it just sounds right!
i wanted a Pleo, but santa didn’t bring me one. i’m so jealous!
how about naming him Oswald?
Dinky came first to mind!!
You have to name him Rory! Because he’s a dinosaur and he roars! Plus the heading of your e-mail was RAWR.
It’s simple: Pleodore!
Short for Tyno-Roar the Dinosaur.
Or you could just call him Tyne.
Stefan! That was Clifford’s dinosaur’s name in the movie.
Gunther! I had a rad hamster named Gunther once, he survived an entire night in his hamster ball rolling on the rooftops of Brooklyn (thanks to my friend who was hamster-sitting and forgetful).
little foot yeah i like that 🙂
Herbert the Herbivore
Steven (from the man behind the Jurassic Park movie)
Isla Sorna (means “Sarcasm Island” in Spanish, but also the site of second Jurassic Park movie)
EuGene (a reference to InGen, the company in the Jurassic Park franchise)
Velociraptor? I hardly knew ‘er!
He seems like he needs an ‘A’ name.
Rory or to be more obnoxious, “Roary”
He looks like a Kenneth.
Littlefoot, Ducky, or Petrie
Harold seems fitting.
Terrance, Edwin or Grrarl =]
i may be the only one who thinks it is a female, but it looks like a sparkle marie to me.
Petrie for sure 🙂
Hammond, or Hammy for short (after Jurassic Park character John Hammond)
Her earthy coloring and wise eyes remind me of a Grandma. A cool grandma who lets your borrow lots of sweet vintage clothes and accessories from her closet.
Her name should be Gertrude!
Leonardo (or Leo)
Mimus (Greek for mimic)
I forgot to mention, you can call her ‘Gertie’ for short. Who wouldn’t want a little Gertie toddling around the office?
Lieutenant Rex Walker
Terrance, Edwin, Mortimer or Grrarl 😀
Finicky; or Fin for short. :]
– requiring much care, precision, or attentive effort
Azul – spanish for “blue”
Cleo the Pleo
El Dino Robotico
Call him Bamzilla. You remember the cartoon, Bambi meets godzilla?
Max…. just max
Atlanta (after the fact that another name for a Brontosaurus is Atlantosaurus)
Ruasonid the Dinosaur
Baby – for Secret of the Lost Legend movie
Rascal – A diminutive stretch on Jurassic
He’s sooo cute, I have 3 differents names for him:
Booggy B or
Have a nice day ¦¬)
Dexter (the Dinosaur, of course)
Baron Von Quigglesworth or Quiggles for short.
Also: Professor Quimbles or Quimbles for short.
I’d say it’s definitely a boy 🙂
or Emily Bronte-saurus if I am incorrect
Dr. Raymond Scaleypants!
How about Frederick the Friendly Dinosaur?? I think that fits him perfectly.
Dofo, D-Fo or Fossi (Docile Fossil), Doci, Docilis Rex
Or Sylvia if it’s a girl.
The little ‘saurus looks like an Alice.
Give that reptile a headband!
As an appropriate brother for Winston, I suggest:
Dr. Peter Venkman
Dr. Egon Spengler
Not only do the names provide an endless combination of nicknames, but soon, you will have a complete set of furry/scaley/other Ghostbusters to rid ModCloth of any suspsicious plasms. It also can’t hurt to have the living-spirit of Bill Murray lurking around…
Albert Camus (no reason, just would be funny)
Littlefoot (The Land Before Time)
Cutiesaurus was the first thing that popped into my head.
I also like:
Little Nom-nom (or just Nom-nom)
Sukoshi (Japanese for ‘little’)
Snafu (an acronym meaning Situation Normal All F’ed Up) saurus
^because he’s a littler charmer 🙂
Sugar – Because it’s such a cutie
(What has it done to that poor duck?)
Little Put (like Lilliput in Gulliver’s Travels, where everyone’s tiny but too arrogant to notice). Plus, it’s vaguely evocative of the Land Before Time character.
Oramel after the first person to discover a Camarasaurus fossil.
Or Killer. Because it’s an awesome name.
Number eight from dinotopia.
but for a “real” name i would say franti
Felix. It may not be super creative or nutty, but he looks like a Felix.
Although Tiernan would suit him as well. He’s such a cutie!
Hamilton Quincy Adams III
or Miss Pleo – but I’m sure someone already said that…
For irony (astrakhan is “a fur of young lambs, with lustrous, closely curled wool,” which is appropriate for a stylish clothing company like ModCloth) and because the word looks old and mysterious, which dinosaurs are!
Astrakhan also breaks into fond nicknames easily and you can go the male or female route.
Gus for short
Petey Pants Jr.
…others with the knack to disappear (become extinct) and reappear in the 21st century as good as new
or Theodore (Theo)
Leona, if its a she.
-like the shirt, but also because hes a baby t-rex!
Cleo the Pleo Dino!!!
i think Bess or Wiki.
I think the Dinosaur looks like Clippy.
Phinneaus, Phin for short
Modalus which plays on a dinosaur name meaning ornate…i was thinking talented. 🙂
D-Rex (which is short for Dangerous Rex!)
He also could be Manny, or Terrance, or perhaps Geoffery!
For a girl- Mabel or Bette
For a boy- Clyde or Rupert
Quincy Scaleybottom. (or Quincy Lizardsworth, whichever.)
He seems like a Charles to me. Way classy.
combining modcloth and dinosaur to get modosaur!!
To me he looks like Dudu!! lol
Mordecai the Modasaurus.
Freddie :] that’s the first name that popped into my head when I watched the clip.
Mr. Chompy would be cute.
or Squeaks. i don’t picture him roaring. . . squeaking, maybe, but not roaring.
Dandelion the dinosoar =D
Mr. Darcy the Dino
Dinah Shore 😉
Because my friend Elisa loves dinosaurs more than any person I know, all I can think of is naming a dinosaur toy after her, or after her standard name or all our inanimate objects – Jimmy Jimmy (like The Undertones song).
Because I McLoveHim!!!
chompers the dino.
Looks like a Clancy to me.
I’m a fan of the name Eggbert for hatched things (we named a guinea fowl that once and he rocked the casbah so why not your little dino friend?)
from the land before time 🙂
ducky the dino bot.
mortimor or mordechai
Name him “Rawr,” of course.
Nice, tough name… no one will mess with him.
Taco. Taco the Dinosaur.
DASH THE DINOSAUR
♦ lil yoshi!
♦ yoshitoo ( lol … it might be.. well you know.. yo’shitoo)
♦ mr. kikilokikikii (or kikilokikikiiii)
♦ burrito taco chimichanga
Archie – as in archaic, since he’s technically extinct.
Mite – as in Dino-MITE!!
Veg E. Tarian
Stubby (named for a giraffe who wouldn’t take chances)
Slagothaur… I may have stolen this from an episode of “Scrubs”.
Baby Blue Eyes
Gertie! Like the dinosaure in the first animation movie ever made, in 1914, ”Gertie the dinosaure”.
how about “sweet sauri blue eyes”?
I was going to say Littlefoot, too.
How about Duncan? I like alliteration, and he looks like a Duncan (cool, in a slightly nerdy way)
Cleo [the Pleo Dino]
It’s a great name for a dino. 🙂 It’s like a sneeze sound, and it’s like Humphrey Bogart, who was amazing).
Now do you need new Modcloth art? 🙂
Patty the Apatosaurus
Tinoraur, Tinorawr, Reptilio, Paraptor, Parapa the Raptor (Like Parapa the Rapper), Dero, Herby
Moddy the Modasaur
The Land Before Mime. No, that doesn’t work. It just made a sound. How about Lewis?
Yukki (means Brave in Japanese)
or Amos (means Brave in Hebrew)
Those a two pretty awesome names!
I’d go for “Kitty” – that way, if you are feeling a little embarrassed about your devotion, strangers won’t look at you TOO harshly.
Try it in a sentence
“I feel such a maternal instinct toward my new Kitty”
seems a little more sane than:
“I feel such a maternal instinct toward my new robotic dinosaur”
How about Wilson?
Mmm….he looks like a Pete to me. Yup, Pete the Dinosaur.
I personally think that dynosore looks like a Sheba. yes Sheba is lovely.
I’m thinking “Pat” because he looks like an Apatosaurus…or Patty if it’s a chick. Even though Pat can work for both, I guess =D
Sinclair the Terrible
Hammer the Dinosaur
i think its named should be…..blue eyes
Tugboat … nickname tuggies.
Jacqueline – because when it talks it sounds like Marge’s mother from the Simpsons
I think she looks like a Betsy. Personally I prefer the spelling ‘Betsie” but that’s just me.
And her full name could be Bestie Dinochen. Dinochen = German for “tiny dino girl” but adding “chen” to anything is really just a term of endearment.
& remember it’s German! So it’s not “chen” like “choo-choo” it’s a ch in the back of your throat…hard to describe without sound.
Sorry for the mini German lesson.
you could name him Leo. Short for Leonard (Winston Churchill’s middle name) or short for Liopleurodon (a marine reptile from the middle Jurassic period). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liopleurodon
I think his name should be Phillip.
oliver or ollie
Jingles? Maybe Sprinkles?
Charazard or charmander or blue, or aiden or caidence
(after the creature living in Loch Ness in the movie “The Water Horse”, looks just like your robot)
Gillie or Gilbert
Fearfully Great Lizard (the meaning of the word Dinosaur)
Stanisluas (Stan for Short)
Modzilla, of course. Godzilla’s younger, fashionable sister.
She is a cutie pie!
dinorawr the dinosaur 🙂
um well try to theme the name off of the other mascots, since the names you have are fancy, choose a name that is fancy. You could go with like a pair of people you could name him Churchill? you know Winston and Churchill? hahahaha god i have had to name so many things.
(Since that kind of dino eats raw meat…)
Uncle Peanut Butter
Tyeson (French, means fiery)
Piers (French, means rock)
Aylward (English, means noble protector)
Cadby (English, means from the warrior’s settlement)
Sebastyn (Latin, means honored above all others)
Kyran (Hindu, means beam of light)
Chalmers (Scottish, means rules the home)
Melvyn (Celtic, means leader)
When I was a kid, my mom read Dr. Seuss’s “Too Many Daves” to me a lot. It’s about a mom that had a lot of kids (and this is Dr. Seuss so it’s a LOT a lot) and she names them all Dave. She later regrets that she didn’t give them all different names. My favorite of her imagined other names are:
Zanzibar Buck Buck McFate
Oliver Boliver Butt.
I subsequently named one of the bulls on our farm Oliver Boliver Butt, but Zanzibar Buck Buck McFate remains unused and chock full of potential. Of course, you can always name it Dave.
I really like the name Fletcher!
I think Daisy the Dino would be a great name
I think -her- name is Constance.
Pickle (He looks like a pickle and Pickle just happens to be my last name).
Digby, Walaby or Hughbert
Churchill, (Winston & Churchill)
Also, isn’t it cheating to offer like five or six suggestions? ::Ahem::
Tobor (that’s Robot backwards, and the name of my childhood robot)
Desmond (Dessy the Dino)
Uncle Peanut Butter
He/She’s super cute. I’m thinking something like
Puddin/Puddy for short (yes, Puddy like from Seinfeld)
Snuggles the DInosaur
or simply Rawr.
Puff the Magic Dragon
OR you could name him ‘Pat.’ Then it’s a name AND a directive; ‘Pat’ the dinosaur, and “Pat the dinosaur!”
I’ve always wanted a rabbit named Pat, honestly. Remember those ‘PAt the Bunny’ books??
Lio. . .short for Magical Liopleurodon (Charlile the Unicorn Reference)
I would call him Maurice and give him the surname of “Momo”; such a cutie!
Tyke (Because he’s a baby…as in “little tyke”
Sir Rex-a-lot (why not? I feel like this little guy could bust a move like Sir-Mix-A-lot.
Smalls (He’s tiny. And in a way reminds me of Smalls from the movie the Sandlot.

Webble…he looks like a little rebel!
Rorie the Raptor
Kroan the Warrior King
Kublicon the Distroyer
Just cuz its so cute.
I’m totally bummed that another person beat me to Fido the Dino AND used my last name of Oswald. How about:
I think he looks a little like an Alfred… or Frederick.
I think it should be a girl… i would name her something not too typical… like maybe:
or maybe Zephyra
sorry if anyone already mentioned any of those… i didn’t have time to read all the other posts…
or if you want it to be a boy it could be
or Spencer (yes i realize that is typical… but i love the name spencer!)
(Definitly need a girl in the mascot section of things)
But if it must be a boy then how about:
Sveglio (which means cute in Italian) or Mr. Sveglio
I had a dino-plushie-friend when I was a kid, and his name was Stompy. So, I think that would be good.
I loved that little guy. I STILL love that little guy.
Cerberus, after the multi-headed dog that guards the underworld in Greek mythology. Surely this will scare off all the bad guys, PLUS you can appreciate the irony of such a cuddly little robot being attached to a name with such a frightening connotation 🙂
Name him “Creepy.”
I think Petunia is a nice name. Or Sparker.
Actually, I’m writing my thesis and he would be the perfect companion!
Maudeclothsaurusotron (Maude for short)
Porter or Tasha (a la Land of the Lost)
BC (as in the time period)
Tarpit (or just Tar?)
Feroshi (ferocious yoshi)
I’m gonna say “Thor” or maybe “Bay Bay Deeknow”
Dino! I love the Flinstones, so naming him after their beloved purple pet would be great!
Well since this is a PLEO Dino, I’d call him
It’s distinguished, and an anagram of the product’s name. CLEVAR!!!1
It’s adorable, gender neutral (it’s a little early to be imposing gender roles, don’t you agree? 😉 ), easily rhyme-able for pet names/cooing/fluttering over, and you’re mod cloth–What better icon of the mod era, thus namesake, than Andy Warhol?
Shiva – the Hindu god of procreation and destruction
or Jeff Goldblum
he is clearly Theodore
Roary (get it? ROARR!)
He’s so cute 🙂

he is clearly a Theodore
maybe some fashion-inspired names?
Willow – a shade of yellow green
Chevron – a pattern formed by V’s
name it Torey
but she’s not cute…
Fidosaurus Rex – when he’s acting like the fashion King/diva that he is
Fidosaur – for when he’s just prowling around the office
Henri (pronounced the french way, naturally)
Denver so that he already has his theme song ready… “Denver, the last dinosaur, He’s my friend and a whole lot more…” I can’t be the only one who remembers that cartoon.
Agamemnon (name of a Volcano/Greek hero)
Crichton (as in Michael Crichton, who wrote Jurassic Park and really gave dinos a place in pop culture!)
Name her “Gertie” after the famous Windsor McCay animated dinosaur that is credited with being the first cartoon to display a character with personality.
High-Tail or HT for short, look at how cute and high the tail sticks up..come on, no brainer.
Chleo the Pleo
henderson (also my dachshund’s name)
philip (or just phil)
JJ….. For Jimmie JJ Walker. DYNOMITE!
Reginald (or Reggie for short)
Madeline (or Maddie for short)
Rex Machine! (See what I did there? That’s a play on words! And it fits because it’s a dino, and a robot, and it’s SEXY! RAAR, baby! Very RARR!)
steve ( from an Eddie Izzard quote “I was on the moon with Steve”)
or maybe, Steve the Pirate.
Ninja (have you seen my cute new ninja?)
Fuzzy Lumpkins (it’s a nic name for my cat, but I’ll share it with you guys)
Duckie! Like in Land Before Time 🙂
I think it should be either
Riggly or Spanky
Andy the dandy dinosaur!or
Crawford (Cindy’s signature mole is on this little dino’s sweet face!)
Talou was the first thing to pop into my head. It’s pronounced tall-loo. ♥♥♥
I think you should call him Thunder (the little wonder).
Because he roars!
Either Pierre or Wally!
Angus (as in macgyver)
Yoshi (like dr. mcninja – in turn from mario of course)
Greta Von Brautwurst…like my dog
any of these would suffice. i know..i have a gift with this stuff
aloisius (which kind of rhymes with delicious), the name that peewee gives the puppy he finds in one episode (which he later finds out belongs to reba the mail lady). that would be beast!
Herbert von Brontonhof, definitely.
I think you should name the dino “Maude”cloth-osaurus
Depending on the gender,
Pippin (Pip for short)
Atticus (Atti for short)
Seymour Benzer or “Benzer” for short. He was a famous scientist in the 1960s for genetics, but has an awesome name. 🙂
i think he should be named :
Tyro…that’s the first name that popped into my head when I saw him. I feel perfect for a pet dinosaur robot.
I think it’s the sweet blue eyes, but this dino looks like a girl to me. I think she looks like an Esmerelda! Lady Esmerelda, or Lady Es for short.
Her name is Fifi.
I like old names….
I think those would all suit him well (seems like a boy dino to me).
Mr. Ger Asic.
I just thought of something. Sushi would be what she eats, not what she is. So, maybe Slayer instead?
But Sushi is oh so cute!
I like Little Foot or Manny, but as those have already been suggested…
…he seems like an H or an M!
I think you should name him Frederick or Robert
Extinct-Exi for short.
I think the perfect name would be Moshi Moshi
Easy… he’s definately a Claude 🙂
I think he is a
I would call him Mr. Wiggles or maybe Mr. Sweet Cheeks.
It’s gotta be Old Lace! I’m not sure how many will get that reference, but it is the greatest dinosaur name ever. Maybe Dromi? That’s a dinosaur name with a background, and it’s pretty cute!
Hubert if he’s a boy
Gerturde or Cami if she’s a girl
Peeve… Because when you introduce him you can say, “This is my pet, Peeve” :o)
Dever so that she has her theme song ready made. Remember? “Denver, the last dinosaur, he’s my friend and a whole lot more…” Surely someone remembers that cartoon 🙂
Deno (dee-no) the dino. 🙂
Who says it’s a he?
Looks like a “pinky” to me.
His name should totally be Peedie. Peedie the Pleo!! raaawrrrrrrrr
Skeeter the Veggie Eaterrr
My first thought was Rawry (or Rory or Roary) but a couple people were already clever like that.
How about Agamemnon? Or Aeolus? Greek names are always fun.
Or maybe Linus?
OR how about Sarpedon? When I was reading the Iliad it always sounded kind of like a dinosaur name.
(it’s a big name for such a little guy, plus it’s like T. Rex put together)
kyle would be a good name if it’s a boy. simple, unpretentious, but not too common.
helen, because i bet that face could launch a thousand ships.
milo, which is greek for “apple”, and he seems to be the apple of your eye.
or, my personal favorite, Dragomira, both because of the reference to dragons, the other great lizards, and because it means “glory of the day”, and this is a most glorious little beastie.
Vicious Green OR
Goliath or Nefertiti 😀
Daniel or William.
mortimer (oops that’s already here but i’ll write it anyways since he really does look like a mortimer)
Twiggy (if you prefer a girl’s name)

Baby Bronto-matic 3000
“pepe” is easy and cute
Herman the loving and green quadruped.
Stripey Von Footprints
aw…i love dinos! my invisible friend was a stegosaurus named Steggie. (uber creative, i know)
anywho…your dino should be named:
Lil’ Indie J
because i’m sure he loves adventure like Indiana Jones, and loves indie fashion finds like the folks at ModCloth!
It’s Grabbly Gloo!!
Poutch or Eriko the Dino! :))
Sir Richard Owen
(name of the man who coined the name dinosaur)
Larry the Not-So-Scary Rex. (Like from the movie Clifford.)
