The Swimsuit Conundrum: Finding the Perfect Bathing Suit Online

When summer rolls around, many of us would rather crawl under our desks than brave bathing suit season. But have no fear! We’re here to help conquer those anxieties. Here are a few tips to consider when shopping for a bathing suit online:

Know Your Measurements
Compare your bra and underwear sizes to the numbers in each swimsuit’s measurements tab to find the best fit! Don’t forget to take into account the stretchy material bathing suits are made of when determining your size.

Read All Additional Measurement Notes
The Measurements tab on each product page is your best friend! Read everything in it carefully – you might find helpful notes like, “Style runs small and is similar to vintage sizing,” or “Built-in shelf bra. Sizes XS and S feature removable soft cups.”

Dress for the Occasion
Consider your level of beachbound activity when shopping for a new suit. Will you be staying put on your towel, engrossed in a beach read? Then why not try a strapless bikini, like the Bow-ting Party Bandeau Top! If you’re the type to go from sunbathing to beach volleyball in a moment’s instance, go for a suit like the Beach Blanket Bingo Two Piece, which boasts a lower-cut bottom and thicker, supportive straps.

Emphasize Your Favorite Features
The key to a great beach vacay (and life in general)  is to feel confident! What’s the point of  getting a swimsuit if you’re going to fret the entire time you’re wearing it? Look for swimsuits that emphasize your favorite features. If there are areas you feel insecure about, look for a swimsuit that will assuage your worries. Many of our swimsuits, like the Bathing Beauty One Piece, have a double layer front, which allows for a flattering ruched effect. If you love your shoulders and want to draw attention upward, try a bandeau or halter top. Want to subtly show some skin? Pick an eye-catching monokini. If all else fails, stand in front of the mirror and repeat, “I am awesome,” ten times (because you totally are!).

Just because you plan on being lazy all vacation doesn’t mean you need to take time off from looking fabulous! A few simple accessories can easily accentuate your new swimsuit. For ideas on how to glamorize your swimwear, check out our new stylebook!

Fantastic post! The swimsuit lookbook was my favorite one yet.

I adore vintage and vintage-style suits. They’re so much classier, I think – and I’m pretty sure the Bathing Beauty suit would look fantastic on anyone 🙂

It’s sad that your plus sized bathing suits don’t have much support in the bust. The suits are so cute, but a lot of plus sized girls are busty, so these just won’t work.

I just bought a size 16 polka dotted retro style suit from here. The reviews said there wasn’t an underwire, but that there was good bust support anyway. I’ll report back.

I don’t know if I would be a plus size or not. I am from Australia, and am roughly a size 14 in Australian clothes. In most Modcloth stuff I own (I have a lot of pieces!) I wear a Large.

My measurements are Bust: 40″ Waist: 34″ and Hips: 43″ (total circumference).

    Can anyone help me?
