There are some street names which make you wonder, “What avenues of thought lead to this name?” And no matter what path you take in endeavoring to court a good reason, no matter how much drive you have, you may never find an answer. But enough with these theoretical musings. You’re here to read this week’s Top Ten, so let’s get this show on the road!

10. Lois Lane, Mercer, Pennsylvania.  I bet there are a lot of ‘super men’ who live on this street.

9. Bossy Boots Drive, Allen, Texas. Don’t try to tell this drive’s dwellers what to do.

8. Malfunction Junction, Kingston, Arkansas. Remind me never to drive anywhere near this road.

7. Kickapoo Drive, McLean, Illinois. Eww, I don’t want my shoes to smell!

6. Psycho Path, Traverse City, Michigan. That’s one craaazzzzy name!

5. ZZyzx Road, Baker, California. Named on “End of the Alphabet Appreciation Day.”

4. This Ain’t It Road, Dadeville, Alabama. Makes for a good Abbot and Costello skit: “Which road are we looking for?” “This Ain’t it.” “I KNOW this ain’t it, but which road is it?”

3. The intersection of Lonesome Road and Hardup Road, Albany, Georgia. Sounds like a sad place.

2. Magic Pudding Place, Faulconbridge, Australia. Has all the ingredients of a hilarious name.

1. Old Trash Pile Road, Henderson, Louisiana. A personal favorite, they certainly didn’t waste a good name on this street.

Do you live near any amusingly named streets? Or, have you come across any in your travels?

  9. Ashley 11/09/2009 at 5:12 pm #

One of my cross streets is Middle Field Way. A fine name on it’s own, except that it is common for people to accidnetally say Middle Finger. I don’t know why but everyone does it. Most people jst call it Middle Finger now. And once when I was on vacation in No. California we passed a street called No Name Street. My mom has pictures of it somewhere.

Olivia is right, The Magic Pudding is an Australian children’s book that was written and illustrated by Norman Linsday
    and published in 1918 🙂

Also, the part of Brisbane that I live in is known as poets corner because a bunch of the streets are named after poets and writers. I also used to live on Karma Av when I lived in Melbourne, which was right next to Nirvana Av, which was the most stolen street sign in Melbourne.

  25. Maya 11/09/2009 at 9:15 pm #

I live in Faulconbridge!! Yay me!

Yeah Magic Pudding was named after Norman Lindsay’s book. All the streets around there are named after characters. It’s all Baranacle Bill Lane and snugglepot drive.

His art gallery is amazing and a great place to spend a day!

I used to have a client who lived on Snowball Lane in Santa Claus, Indiana. Apparently all the streets names in this town have a holiday theme.

  41. sweetcheese 11/10/2009 at 3:12 am #

One summer I worked near a Dead Cat Alley in Woodland, CA. For the life of me I can’t understand why that would inspire a street name — with an official sign even!
