Top 10 Things to Do on February 14 if You Don't Have a Valentine

Single gals of the world, lend me your ears! I’ve assembled you all here to unite in solidarity for singlehood! This upcoming weekend, when that commercial bonanza called Valentine’s Day rolls around, let us gather together and go out. We’ll eschew romantic dinner dates and fancy flowers, and will instead embrace the fun, farcical, fabulous activities below!

10. Order take out and eat it while watching a movie in your PJs.
9. Go thrifting and find something you adore. Who says money can’t buy love?
8. Play laser tag. Reason? None. Why not!?
7. Head out to the park with a “Free Hugs” sign, and fill your day with warm fuzzies.
6. Write an emo song, record it, and put it on YouTube. Await your imminent fame.
5. Go on a blind date. Would be interesting to see (or not see) how it turns out!
4. Make up a tearjerker of a story and call into Delilah’s radio show.
3. Reenact Hamlet’s famous soliloquy in the grocery store.
2. Crank up Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” on your stereo and dance around with conviction.
1. Organize one heck of a girls’ night out!

Single or not, what will you be doing on Valentine’s Day?

I would LOVE to be thrifting! Haven’t found anything remotely cute in Charlotte, though. Suggestions anyone?

Otherwise – my 3-year-old nephew has agreed to be my Valentine. He’ll be much better than my stupid ex ever was…

Our house got flooded last weekend, so this Vday we’ll be rearranging all the furniture from the front of the house to the back of the house.

I know! It’s so romantic!! 😀 Hopefully we can order Chinese and possibly have a Crank marathon.

I’m baking cupcakes and decorating them to look like a TV dinner and bringing them to my boyfriend’s stepmother and stepsister, since this is the first Valentine’s Day since his dad died.

I’m thinking of getting my craft on and tearing up some of my old clothes to make them into newer, cuter ones. After all, blatant destruction is rather therapeutic!

I will be in New York City for NYFW and the Chictopia conference! I won’t be able to spend it with my hubby, but he says he has amazing plans for when I return!

    haha, hilarious!
I may listen in to Delilah to see if I hear any ModLife inspired whoppers!

I think I’ll be going with the thrifting and ladies night – might as well get ready to look fabulous to pick up a valentine for next year ; )

My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years, but last year was the first time we did anything. The two or three years before that I would watch the concert DVD from Rufus Wainwright’s “Want Two” album. One of the best ways for a gal to spend her Valentine’s Day!

    i like idea number 10!

Finally a post for things that the non-valentined can do this coming V-day! Everything I’ve seen so far until this point has been of the Things-You-Can-Do-With-Your-Valentine variety and it was starting to get annoying. I’m not one for V-day though anyway, even if I do have a valentine. I will probably just bundle up in comfy clothes at home and get some things done, or watch some (non rom-com) movies and eat take-out sushi. There are some great ideas here though! Baking is a great idea!

My fiancee will be delivering bouquets of flowers in his tiny Saturn. Unfortunately that means spending time with each other on Vday is off limits, but fortunately it is bringing in money, and celebrating Vday after the day is much better because it is less busy and less expensive. In a way I am without a valentine on Vday but he will be with me in spirit and he is always with me in my heart!

  19. Rachel 02/10/2010 at 6:54 pm #

Ha, ha–I’ve always wanted to do number 4 🙂

  20. Jacky 02/10/2010 at 9:25 pm #

    haha @ delilah.

I’m going to a friends place to eat ham, drink wine, and play in the snow. booo V-day.

I’ll be going with my love, in my new modcloth dress to dinner and bowling!

  22. Hilary 02/11/2010 at 3:08 am #

I’m going to be at the beach, keeping all the romantics nice and safe. Giving my patrol a ‘mission’ to find me a nice boy during the day. So will have to see how that turns out.

This sounds like it was either meant to be sarcastic or that a man wrote it. Terrible, offensive advice.
Why not ignore the tacky holiday altogether? Instead of wallowing in your manlessness and desperately searching for a distraction that includes “shopping” or “going on a date?”
