Cowgirls, horses, and cactuses --- it is an American story told atop a collection of tried and true silhouettes. What is the inspiration behind this theme?
Spring is an exciting season for our Design team. We are finally coming out of our winter slumber, awakening to a brighter happier mood and color story. For Spring, we were inspired by music, how American-born Blues and Bluegrass evolved into both Country and Rock & Roll genres. We looked at the influence this music has had in fashion and wanted to celebrate the personal style of some favorite female musical artists within these genres. We love the true vintage western styling of Patsy Cline, the high camp glamour of Dolly Parton, and the effortlessly cool style of Brittany Howard.
With vintage-inspired horse prints and cowgirl motifs, how did you manage to make something familiar feel so fanciful?
Traditionally for Spring there are your expected floral prints (which we definitely have). Though we wanted to let our imagination run free with this concept taking the true emblems of western themes and wrangling them all into fun playful pretty colorful prints. Our Rodeo Rose print is one of the most used in the collection, it has a toss of horseshoes, boots and cowgirl hats hidden within floral blooms. Our Cowgirls print took direct inspiration from a vintage 50’s Wild West printed shirting. We also have a trippy psychedelic floral garden, free galloping horses, cute cacti, as well as our graphic-style bandana and paisley prints.

The colors in this line are so vivid but still extremely wearable. How did you strike that balance when planning the colors used in the collection? What inspired the colors?
The title of our delivery is “Neon Rodeo” (if that doesn’t already allude to this popped-up palette!) We took our classic spring colors and took them on a little trip (wink-wink). We wanted a burst of color that would lift the mood and feel oh-so-pretty. Greens are an acid lime and like synthetic lawn turf, pinks are both melon and punchy, balanced with muted faded versions of typical spring pastels and neutral dark navy, traditional black and cloud white.
Which style do you feel is the most versatile for the upcoming season?
I love the versatility of both our woven and knit tops. All of them can be worn very casually, though with our unique prints they look and feel very special. Our floral printed dresses sing spring, also to note most of the dress silhouettes have a feeling of ease and wearability for various occasions. We also chose fabrics with texture and softness, transitioning into natural cotton that can be worn into the warmer months, AND we are introducing our 1st true silk pieces this season!

Which style makes the biggest statement?
Ooh this is a difficult one, how can you make me choose?! We really have a lot of fun items, I can’t resist mentioning a few: for the true western experience our shirtdress (Inspired Anytime Midi Dress By ModCloth) that comes in both a spring floral and in black with contrast white piping is one of our favorites (also has true western shirt pearl snap buttons!), we have a new cotton poplin printed fit and flare dress (Taming the Wild West Fit and Flare Dress By ModCloth) and top/skirt set (Serene Serenade Tank Top By ModCloth and My Time to Mosey Midi Skirt By ModCloth) that comes in three of our storytelling prints, and we have some very special sweaters with all the adorable novelty fix’ns.
Which piece are you most proud of?
This is another hard one to narrow down! I would have to say this is a big dress season for ModCloth and to highlight this category overall, we wanted to offer an abundance of both new and tried-true silhouettes to represent the complete diversity of our customer. I would also like to shout out all of our really beautiful Private Label special occasion dresses (Magic In the Air Wrap Dress By ModCloth) that are in unique pretty fabrications to wear for those memorable events in your life.
