The alternative Australian fashion label, Dangerfield, is perfect for people who like to take a walk on the wild side. To celebrate this wildly playful brand, we decided to double up on style with matching mommy-and-me narwhal and jellyfish prints! As modeled by one of our favorite ModCloth Mamas, Erin C., and her mini me, Bayliss, we also sat down with Erin for some behind-the-scenes scoop on our most sen-sea-tional shoot yet!

As the Senior Photo Studio and Production Manager, can you describe to our readers what a typical day for you is like on set?

As with anything right now, what is considered “typical” is constantly evolving. A lot of my work is done behind the scenes ahead of the shoot day, so when we get to set I’m mostly managing the flow of the schedule. I walk the crew through the shot list for the day, and we talk through any set, prop, hair, makeup, and lighting changes. We’re maximizing our time each shoot by shooting multiple stories on one model per day over multiple days, so the end result is capturing anywhere from 30–50 looks per campaign. With this volume, I’m managing each shot down to the minute to make sure there’s enough time for still photos and video of everything that has been requested.

Along with our Production Coordinator, Belle, I’m also spending a good portion of my day making sure everyone is complying with safety guidelines - keeping their masks/face shields on, setting up additional tables and chairs during meal breaks, keeping sanitizer stocked, and wiping down high-touch surfaces. At the end of the day, I’m acting as a support system for our crew and talent.

Getting to shoot with your daughter, Bayliss, in matching Mommy-and-me prints must have been so exciting! What was it like shooting with her? Any behind-the-scenes tidbits you want to share?

Ultimately, it was so much fun! When we first walked on set though, she was quite timid and was immediately annoyed at me for giving her directions. For about 30 seconds, I was regretting signing us up for something that might end up with both of us in tears...but as soon as I stepped off set she turned on the fierceness. I was blown away - Kristen, our Stylist, was screaming. Bayliss told me later she preferred modeling by herself, so I guess she’s 6 going on 16.

You got the opportunity to try these playful Dangerfield designs before anyone else. What do you love about these styles? What did Bayliss think?

I loved the super flattering A-line silhouette of the jellyfish print dress that matches back to the girls’ jumper. And the iridescent foil detail of the jellyfish on the girls’ items is stunning. Bayliss was thrilled to dress in matching prints (even if she was much less enthused to share the stage with me!)

Growing up, did your mother ever give you fashion advice? What’s a piece of style advice you would like to pass along to Bayliss?

My mom was a bohemian chick at heart, so she always emphasized wearing flowy styles that look effortless and feel comfortable, and she was a huge fan of buying secondhand. Before the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns began, one of my favorite activities was taking Bayliss to the Rose Bowl Flea Market every month. Hopefully I’ll be able to help her cultivate an appreciation for unique fashion and timeless style!
